sorry for leaving out the rest of the world here, but i do believe that most globally popular bands come from these parts.

European, mostly British bands, mostly bands from Northern England and, :sigh: , mostly bands from... Lancashire ...

;)

Nearly all the music I listen to is from European bands.

European mostly. I enjoy bands such as U2, Radiohead, Coldplay and Oasis, to name a few.

But there are good Canadian groups out there that I like as well: Our Lady Peace, The Tragically Hip and, of course, Arcade Fire.

The only American band I ever really listened to regularly was Aerosmith a few years ago.

Let's see... out of my Top 10 on last.fm:

AMERICAN/CANADIAN
Pearl Jam
REM
Tori Amos
RHCP

EUROPEAN
U2
The Beatles
Oasis
Keane
Pink Floyd
Radiohead

:hmm: More European I think.

although, U2 may as well qualify as American!

I like whatever doesn't suck, but lately i've been listening mostly European music.

Primarily European, especially the UK and Scandinavia. I suppose that comes with the territory when you're a prog/metal fan.

I also listen to a fair bit of New Zealand goodness.

what do you listen to from the lovely scandinavia?

Let's see ... Opeth, Mew, Wolverine, Circus Maximus, Borknagar, Arcturus, Änglagård, Age Of Silence, Katatonia, Ihsahn, Dan Swanö, Spiral Architect, Ulver, Pagan's Mind, Green Carnation, In The Woods..., Sonata Arctica, Apocalyptica, Antestor.

There's a few.

A little from column A, a little from column B...

But my three favoritest bands are all from Europe (U2, Manics, and Placebo). I also have a soft spot in my heart for Welsh bands in particular (Manics, Stereophonics, People in Planes).

Like Zooters, I'll consult my last.fm top 30.

North American

Wilco
Broken Social Scene
Death Cab For Cutie
The Flaming Lips
Bright Eyes
Sufjan Stevens
Iron & Wine
Bob Dylan
The Decemberists
Beck
Ryan Adams
The Arcade Fire
Secret Machines
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Pete Yorn
The Killers
My Morning Jacket
The White Stripes
Feist
Gnarls Barkley
Stars

European

U2
The Beatles
Radiohead
Coldplay
Damien Rice
Sigur Ros (I guess Iceland counts, sort of)
Snow Patrol
Nick Drake
Thom Yorke

It definitely looks like I lean more towards North America. Despite that, my top 4 most listened to artists are European.

Mine's almost the exact opposite of yours, imp13!

European:
Pink Floyd
Radiohead
Echo & The Bunnymen
Roger Waters
Queen
Muse
The Beatles
The Clash
Joy Division
Nick Drake
Chris de Burgh
The Alan Parsons Project
Supertramp
Frédéric Chopin
Sigur Rós
Bloc Party
Franz Ferdinand
The Police

North American:
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Howard Shore
Modest Mouse
The Doors
Interpol
Don McLean
The Arcade Fire
Wolf Parade
Danny Elfman
Broken Social Scene
Simon & Garfunkel

Definitely more European (especially UK) heavy. And seven of my top ten are from England.

i rarely list to american artists, my playlist is full of European artists.

I'll jump on the "last.fm top thirty" bandwagon, though it's a bit out of date. Some bands have high playcounts just from when I didn't have so much music on my computer, while many bands I like and nowadays play much more (such as those I mentioned in reply to U2Man) haven't had a chance to reach the top thirty yet.

European
U2/Passengers
Porcupine Tree
Anathema
Joy Division
Pink Floyd
Pure Reason Revolution
The Shadows
Circus Maximus
Dire Straits
Muse
The Verve
Queen
Opeth
Delays

North American
Dream Theater
Agalloch
Spock's Beard
Symphony X
The Devin Townsend Band
REM

New Zealand
Crowded House
Split Enz
The Chills
Neil Finn
Tim Finn, Bic Runga, Dave Dobbyn
Finn Brothers
Shihad

Israel
Orphaned Land
Blackfield

Even New Zealand's outdoing North America.

Bono blows it out his arse. He is still Irish though. I really hope you dont beleive everything that man says.

My music is mostly Australian, then Pommie, then rest of the world.

well my favourite artists are U2, the beatles, the smiths, kings of leon, chilli peppers, arcade fire, the rakes, the strokes, the streets, bowie, take that, the cure, royksopp and the rolling stones so i think european wins that for me.
