me too. i have a thing for each person where i put "protected songs" and write yes/no. and if it's yes, how many, and if i had the songs. i deduct points if they have protected songs as well, because obviously it messes up the flow if there's songs i can't play. it's not hard to take a little bit of time to do a once over and make sure there's no protected songs. and some people have quite a few.

what i do is, when i know i've got my playlist complete, i take all the protected songs, and make a cd out of them. then i import them. luckily, i usually have just one or two on my entire playlist.

I just put my whole playlist on CD and import. That way I make sure everything is in MP3 format.

Also, why is it that like 1/5 of my album artworks show up fine on iTunes but as blank, black squares on my iPod? Very frustrating.

I just put my whole playlist on CD and import. That way I make sure everything is in MP3 format.

that's a good idea as well. although for me, everything would either be mp3 or m4a. afaik, all players can play m4a files. but if i ever found out someone couldn't play an m4a (unprotected obvs) i'd put up, then i'd go your route.
