Did Rolling Stone get the 500 best right?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Did Rolling Stone get the 500 best rock songs of all time right?
What are your top five choices? Purely subjective. What ones blew your mind?

Here are mine.

1. Layla (not the crappy acoustic version) Clapton
2. Like a Hurricane (the guitar transcends) Neil Young
3. One U2
4. Crossfire Stevie Ray Vaughan
5. Breakdown Tom Petty

Rolling Stone doesn't get anything right. What a ridiculous question.

I don't know what my top five rock songs are. Once you get to the upper tier, it's impossible to say what's better than what (which is why all of Rolling Stone's Top Whatever of All Time lists suck).

Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Let It Be - The Beatles
Light My Fire - The Doors
One - U2
Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2

Honorable Mentions: Endless array of U2, Beatles, and Queen songs

i was going to try and do a list, but it is too hard.

Not only placing which goes in which position, but actually deciding on five. I could never decide b/c i would worry i would come back later and realize i had left several off and whatnot

Yesterday-Beatles
Stairway to heaven-Led Zeppellin
Like a rolling stone-Bob Dylan
(I can't get no) satisfaction-Rolling Stones
One-U2

They focused waaaaaay too much on early rock and roll. Of course, some of the tunes are fantastic and deserve to be on the list. Others....eh.

I absolutely agree. These journalists are older and tend to focus on older music simply because it came first and therefore must be better. Sure, there are gleaming exceptions such as The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder to name a few. But I saw some old one-hit-wonder R&B girl groups in there who have no place other than the fact that they were the first of their kind. (Not saying Destiny's Child or SWV deserve a place on the list instead.)

I really could go on and on here.

Yeah, being revolutionary is good, but being good is good too.

1. See The Lights - Simple Minds
2. Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin
3. A Sort Of Homecoming - U2

Just my top 5 (today that is...)
1. Bad - U2
2. I Want To Hold Your Hand (first 45 rpm single of my life) - The Beatles
3. Ambulance Blues - Neil Young
4. Alone Again Or - Love
5. Body And Soul - Louis Armstrong
