Has anyone here ever had surgery to correct one?

I've been a victim of terrible sinuses (infections etc...) for as long as I can remember. I finally saw a therapist today and it turns out that I have a severly deviated septum - so much so that it's occluding my left sided sinuses and they cant drain - hence all the sinus pressure, blockage, infections, etc. In ways I'm relieved, because now I know why this keeps happening, but at the same time peeved because it's taken so long for anyone to figure this out.
Anyway - the treatment is surgical. I know all the ins and outs of the surgery because ironically I work in a hospital that specializing in this kind of surgery. It actually makes it a little more scary... sometimes having too much info can be worse.

I just am looking for some feedback from people as to how they have felt afterwards - when the healing is complete. I've only dealt with patient the first few hours post-op. I'm seriously considering the surgery if it will alleviate things.

Well I'm glad that they finally found the source of your troubles! Although surgery = yuk.

My sister had surgery to help relieve a lifetime of headaches. Someone eventually took her seriously and found she could be helped. I was so pleased for her, but annoyed it took so long for someone to finally investigate possible causes other than dismissing her as just another stressed female. Poor girl, I know she was scared cause her dad died of a brain haemmorage, but the operation helped a lot.It was worth it.
I had an operation on my nose after a car accident...not a pleasant memory, but, you'll OK she is raging. The human body has a powerful healing capacity.Good luck, be brave:hug:

i had sinus surgery in december 2001. I had no stop sinus infections for 2 years, headaches and all the other symptoms of chronic sinusitis. My CT Scan showed complete blockages, no deviated septum though. I was miserable for a long time. After the surgery I went on allergy shots and I have not had an issue since.

I did get a case of pneumonia post surgery that left me in bad shape, but I think that is rather rare. Even with that complication I would elect to go through the surgery again. Its so nice not to suffer from those problems anymore.

If you have any questions I can help you answer please feel free to ask. I know a good deal about the procedure.

my dad had it done, very recently. he loves it. it knocked him out for a few days (the surgery) but now he feels great. no sinus issues, no stuffed nose, less problems breathing at night (IE sleep apnea) and better asthma.

I have one and my allergist suggested I see an ear, nose, and throat specialist about getting it taken care of if I got another sinus infection. The strange thing is I haven't gotten a sinus infection since he said that to me last summer.......:uhoh: I'll probably get one now that I said that :(
