Please vote for the playlist you LIKE THE MOST.

Welcome to the third match of the first round for Interference Desert Island VI! The premise of this game is that all of the Interferencers have been stranded on a desert island and we can only take up to 160 minutes of music with us (either as a continuous iPod playlist or two 80 minute CDs or any other format of our choosing). The object is to see which forum member can fit the most musical goodness into these 160 minutes.

For every win, each player will receive three points. If there is a tie, each player gets two points. If a player loses a match but is within three votes of the winner, that player will earn a single point.

At the beginning of each round, I will include the updated standings. Remember, the top two from each group moves on to the quarterfinals.

If you haven't listened to all the playlists, and you don't think you'll have time to get through them, I would urge everyone to at least review how each playlist is structured and, if possible, to check out the sequencing and flow of the songs. I'd also take the time to listen to a song by an artist you are unfamiliar with, or any song by an artist you usually dislike, as sometimes you may hear something you never thought you would have from that artist.

Our first match has ended, with GirlsAloudFan taking a convincing 15-6 victory over Irishteen.

Newcomer gump squares off against our runner-up from the last competition, hardyharhar. Below are their playlists.

Uncertain Paths

I guess every playlist is a reflection of one’s own self, so I won’t deny this one has a bit (or a lot) of myself in it. I won’t dwelve into details, as I would like to leave this open for interpretation, but the main topic here is transition into adulthood, the uncertain paths we have to choose, the dilemmas and doubts it generates. It is not all gloomy, but rather a contrast of emotions, from joy to desperation to hope for a happy ending. Concept or no concept, the playlist also has some of my favorite songs, which I hope you will enjoy. Thanks for listening!

Since I’m Mr Literal, I approach this as if I’m actually gonna end up on an island. So I gotta have songs I’m gonna like listening to on my solar or wind powered boombox. And being old enough to remember the 60’s, I have to have songs from way back then also. So I think I got a pretty good mix of tunes I’ve enjoyed since then. There’s a handful of songs from previous DI and mini contest lists I’ve included which I never would have heard otherwise, but really like now. So thanks to all the participants for turning me on to some great songs. You’ll know who you are by checking the info on each song. I’m looking forward to hearing some new stuff once again that will become part of my being from here on. Hopefully there’s something here that someone else will enjoy. I’ve tried to select songs from the older artists that are not commonly heard (but will no doubt still be familiar), and still be fun listening. I think it moves along pretty well, and I even became kinda reflective in the second half. I was gonna end on U2, but I had to include the Neil Young song I’d just discovered and love. I thought it worked well as the last song anyways and it had to go there because it’s live (gasp!) and there’s a minute of applause at the end of it. We’ll just pretend everyone is applauding cuz the list was so good (haha) or just cuz it’s finally over. Well……………………. I hope you enjoy it.

Competition master list.

Have fun!

Gump made a playlist after my own hipster heart. There are too many good great songs to ignore. And I actually liked the Pavement song. Maybe that door is cracking open a bit.

There is a lot to like about Hardy's playlist, though.

Hmmm... I really like hardy's list. Also, I'm wondering what the rules of morality are for voting for one's own playlist...

Gump's by a little bit.

The lists this time, for the most part, were quite similar in quality (and a high quality, at that).

Since I haven't commented on Gump's list yet...........

It was put together nicely and flowed painlessly. It was a bit too mellow for me since the mood kinda stayed the same for the whole 2 hours. I think I just prefer the songwriting of the older folk artists, and the artists I was familiar with here (like bowie, dylan, radiohead, herbie hancock and beatles...) were songs I didn't really care for.

I hope this doesn't sound like sour grapes, since it's my round and I'm getting rolled here. I'm just trying to make a few comments on the lists as they come up here in the first rounds. Like I said, Gump's list was put together well. Just not my cup o' tea. And judging by the votes, it seems I've reached the dreaded generation gap :) Had to happen sometime.

Anyways, I'm voting for Hardy. Apart from the short segment where he tried to jam in different era punk songs, I thought his list was just cowabunga

I'm goin' to get the snorkel now, after I finish this pina colada. Water's about 85 degrees, who wants to join me ....

Same here.

Although I did enjoy checking out the more obscure stuff on Hardy's list quite a bit as well.

I was really going back and forth on this one. gump's playlist is fantastic.

But hardy really won me over with some great older selections, and the last part was excellent.

So in an extremely tough choice, my vote went to hardy.
