Please vote for the playlist you LIKE THE MOST.

Welcome to the first match of the first round for Interference Desert Island VI! The premise of this game is that all of the Interferencers have been stranded on a desert island and we can only take up to 160 minutes of music with us (either as a continuous iPod playlist or two 80 minute CDs or any other format of our choosing). The object is to see which forum member can fit the most musical goodness into these 160 minutes.

For every win, each player will receive three points. If there is a tie, each player gets two points. If a player loses a match but is within three votes of the winner, that player will earn a single point.

At the beginning of each round, I will include the updated standings. Remember, the top two from each group moves on to the quarterfinals.

Our schedule is as follows:

One final note: If you haven't listened to all the playlists, and you don't think you'll have time to get through them, I would urge everyone to at least review how each playlist is structured and, if possible, to check out the sequencing and flow of the songs. I'd also take the time to listen to a song by an artist you are unfamiliar with, or any song by an artist you usually dislike, as sometimes you may hear something you never thought you would have from that artist.

So with that out of the way, let's kick this thing off. Our first two lucky players are GirlsAloudFan and Irishteen. Below are their playlists.

To Mykonos

This playlist doesn't really have much of a theme, at least not a linear one in any sense. It's more a series of songs to do with the idea of trying to escape from somewhere and realising that nowhere is perfect not even where you dream of going. The playlist is divided into three acts but you can listen to it as a whole if you wish; the parts just represent the different moods of the playlist. I made the playlist with a crossfade on of about 4-6 seconds so that's how I imagined the flow sounding, so that's probably the optimal way to listen to it.

ACT ONE - Down in Jungleland
1 Nobuo Uematsu - "The Extreme" - Final Fantasy VIII: Original Soundtrack (06:45)
2 Explosions In The Sky - "The Birth and Death of the Day" - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone (07:50)
3 The Flaming Lips - "Pompeii Am Götterdämmerung" - At War With The Mystics (04:22)
4 Bloc Party - "Song for Clay (Disappear Here)" - A Weekend In The City (04:50)
5 Muse - "The Small Print" - Absolution (03:29)
6 Thin Lizzy - "Róisín Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend" - Black Rose (07:08)
7 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - "Bring It On" - Nocturama (05:23)
8 Gary Moore - "End Of The World" - Corridors of Power (06:54)
9 The Verve - "The Sun, The Sea" - A Storm In Heaven (05:16)
10 Bruce Springsteen - "Jungleland" - Born To Run (09:31)

Competition master list.

Have fun!

Sorry I haven't commented much on the lists I've heard recently. Like Phanan said, these two are close. GAF was hit and miss for me at the start but hit a nice stride in the middle with only a few I didn't care for. Especially liked Promised Land to U2. Had the awesome Thank You to finish it up, a version I've never heard, but leaves no doubt to the impact Bonham had on that band. I'll be lifting that sucker into my itunes library.
Irishteen's first set up to Bruce was very nice for me. Loved the Bloc Party (thought it was Muse), then by coincidence a kickass Muse song I'd never heard before followed. The Thin Lizzy song , one of my favorite songs so far for whatever reason (working in Long way to Tiperary and Danny Boy :) ), enough so that I didn't deduct much for sorta cheesy 80's era metal Gary Moore track that followed. I prefer the 70's era Gary much more. The Verve was a nice rebound. Bruce and the Rats were too much sax for me and the rest of the way had some nice surprises (like an Arcade Fire track I actually liked), and was about equal with GAF.

So I have to give Irishteen the nod here just on the strength of his first set, since they were basically even to my ears and I gotta choose one.

GAF's list is more my cup of tea.

I haven't heard all the playlists, so I may have to skip some rounds. Just downloaded a couple today for hardy to listen to. Just haven't had a lot of listening time lately...

Oh, starting off with two of my favorite lists? Fate is cruel. GAF by ever so slight a margin.

Irishteen gets my vote.
Love the Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire, Radiohead, and Battles choices.

Like others have said, this was close. But GAF's, in the end. I loved the shout-out to Fleet Foxes by IT, though, they're all sorts of awesome, and so is that song.

GAF gets my vote. The playlist flows well, especially part 1, and I just liked listening to it more.

I think Irishteen's list is really good too though. I especially like the Idioteque into Magnificent transition. Two of my favorite songs from my two favorite bands/

Shit. This was incredibly difficult for me to choose, but I had to go with GAF's. His list had a couple more songs that were up my alley, plus the Mendelssohn bit, which, like I said in the diaries, was one of my favorite moments on a list yet.

Sorry I missed the opening rounds, I was away yesterday. Anyways, I was going to vote for GAF anyways, one of my favorite playlists so far.
