Please vote for the tracklisting you LIKE THE MOST.

Welcome to the sixth heat of the fifth round of the Interference Desert Island Game III! The premise of this game is that all of the Interferencers have been stranded on a desert island and we can only take up to 160 minutes of music with us (either as a continuous iPod playlist or two 80 minute CDs or any other format of our choosing). The object is to see which forum member can fit the most musical goodness into these 160 minutes.

In the third heat, PlaTheGreat easily defeated AtomicBono, 15-5.

Current standings will be displayed in the last thread of Round 5.

Heat 6 has BonoIsMyMuse and edge_2125 battling it out. Below are the tracklistings.

If you don't know the songs, or wish to hear how each tracklisting flows, leave your e-mail address and we'll help you out. :)

Transitions

Everything in my life is changing now, and I wanted to compile a collection of songs to reflect that. I’m in what’s probably been the biggest transition period of my life; while I’m trying to hang on to as many familiar things as I can, I’m realizing that I have to learn how to look at those things in a different way now, too.

I dug into my jazz collection, revisited some of my favorite old country songs, and added newer discoveries like Andrew Bird and the Nels Cline Singers. I’m a writer, and I love those moments both when I’m writing and when I’m reading someone else’s work when there’s a twist, something unexpected but beautiful. I ordered these songs based largely on transitions: the upbeat songs to open the list dropping into the more somber tracks by Ray LaMontagne and Joni Mitchell, then soaring again into probably my favorite section of the list, songs by Gorillaz, Sonny Rollins, and the Clash. I arranged my songs in a way that reflects the ups and downs I’ve experienced in the last few years. The list ends with a group of quieter, more reflective songs, a contrast to the high energy of the opening. “Ashes of American Flags” and “Bad” are probably my two favorite songs, which is why I saved them for the end. Both songs are filled with desperation, but there’s a bit of hope in each of them, too. I knew I wanted to end with “Bad” because the final lyrics to me symbolize looking ahead, which is what I’m doing now.

The cover art is a photograph called “Harvest Curve” by Fred Joy. I chose it because I feel like it reflects the heart of my playlist and the journey that I’ve been on for the last few years, carving my own path rather than following ones others have created. See more of his artwork here: http://www.astoriafineart.com/Artists/Joy - Fred/Fred Joy.htm

I hope you enjoy my playlist.

"A Nuclear Show"

I don't expect that there will be too much here that's unfamiliar to many. Disc
A is a combination of a few moments of near perfect pop, a handful of songs of
personal significance and a touch of melancholic rock, all collected between two
of the most wonderfully beautiful songs I've ever had the pleasure of hearing.
Disc B is more electronic and generally a bit darker. Some of the songs above
are my absolute favourites; others, I've just been enjoying of late. Either way,
I hope you find something - new or old – that’s worth your time.

Disc A:

1. Sigur Rós - "Glósóli" - Takk... (6:15)
2. The Cardigans - "You're The Storm" - Long Gone Before Daylight (3:53)
3. Stars - "Elevator Love Letter" - Heart (4:01)
4. U2 - "Dancing Barefoot" - The Best of 1980-1990 (4:49)
5. The Beatles - "Here Comes The Sun" - Abbey Road (3:05)
6. Bob Marley - "Is This Love" - Gold: Bob Marley and The Wailers (3:54)
7. Eric Clapton - "My Father’s Eyes" - Eric Clapton: The Best of - Clapton
Chronicles (5:23)
8. Peter Gabriel - "Red Rain" - So (5:40)
9. Khaled - "Aicha (Version Mixte)" – Sahra (4:20)
10. Talk Talk - "Give It Up (Single Version)" - The Very Best of Talk Talk
(5:12)
11. Crowded House - "Private Universe" – Recurring Dream - The Very Best of
Crowded House (5:36)

Competition master list.

Have fun!

As I mentioned in the other thread, BonoIsMyMuse is in regardless of the outcome of this heat, due to a better record than Lila.

Edge is in with either a win or draw in this heat. Even a draw would give edge a better record than Lila.

Lila is in if edge loses this heat outright.

Wow, there's a lot at stake with this one. It's nice to know I'm in either way, but it seems like our grouping has had so many close matches.

Nice to see this group coming down to the wire like this. I really enjoyed all the playlists in this group. If I do get through, the feel-good factor is going to be tempered somewhat, given that arguably the best playlist (inmyplace13) awaits in the next round. Well, at least I know I'll get one vote. ;)

I relate more to edge_2125's list! I realize that I'd be voting for somebody in my own group and hence making it even harder for me but... there's no way I'm gonna make it anyway!

Damn, if I knew that, I would have voted strategically. Not that I have a shot in hell or anything. I'm just happy that I got a few votes. And not just from my family
