Welcome to the first round of the main stage of the Interference Desert Island Game II! The premise of this game is that all of the Interferencers have been stranded on a desert island and we can only take up to 160 minutes of music with us (either as a continuous iPod playlist or two 80 minute CDs or any other format of our choosing). The object is to see which forum member can fit the most musical goodness into these 160 minutes. We began with 24 contestants, 12 of whom qualified for the tournament heats via winning their qualifying rounds. The 12 losers then got one more chance in the repechages, and these are now over: Axver, inmyplace13, Salome, and phanan won their rounds and qualified for the four remaining spots in the heats.

However, things did not go quite according to plan. The qualifying round between dazzlingamy and FitzChivalry ended in a draw, meaning that both qualified for the main stage of the tournament. As each heat is limited to a two-person clash, we are thus holding a "pre-heat" or a "play-in game" between Amy and Fitz to achieve a definite result. This round will operate like any other round, with the usual time limit of 2 days.

Below, you will find their tracklistings. If you are unfamiliar with the songs included, we can help you hear them! Just leave your e-mail address. :)

Amy writes: I chose my playlist with a few things in mind. I wanted a broad
spectrum with lots of different genre artists, giving both the cruisy
mellow music I love with a few rock songs thrown in, as I like
changing playlists. I added a few of my favourite aussie artists that
are possibly not well known outside of Australia. They are amazing
artists, so check them out if you like what you hear. I love strings,
and instrumental music, so there are a few of them in there as well.

Fitz writes: This tracklist centers around the idea that, if I was trapped on a desert island, I would want to remember all the people I love and can no longer be with, and many of the good times that I've had. So the songs in my tracklist ARE NOT MY FAVORITE SONGS and are NOT necessarily BY MY FAVORITE ARTISTS (I would never include a Queensryche song on a tracklist of my favorite songs of all time, but the song on here reminds me of my very first crush who made me go all weak and wobbly, hence, it's very special to me). Each song reminds me of either a person I love or a great time I've had, thus, these songs are the memories of my life, from growing up listening to my Mom and Dad's favorites (Allman Bros., Led Zeppelin, Genesis); to The Cure's "Plainsong" - the first song that ever made me cry; to my college days (7 housemates and I on a weekend trip to San Francisco to see Oasis, getting drunk in Chinatown and stuffing ourselves into a cab and singing "Champagne Supernova" at the top of our lungs the entire way to the concert; to coming out of the closet and cutting my baby-gay teeth at club OZZ; to my friends introducing me to the beauty that is Brit-Pop. These are the songs/loved ones/memories I would take with me if I were to be stranded on a desert island.

Dazzlingamy's playlist dazzled me, got my vote:D

FitzChivalry

Not only did I already love his list, but then I just read the reasoning behind it, and I thought that was great, so he gets my vote again.

fitz has some of my favourite songs on there. aja by steely dan is  and new moon on monday is one of my favourite dd tracks. and black celebration isn't my favourite depeche mode song, but that is my favourite album of theirs so it's an automatic win.

plus there are lots of other good tracks on there. those just stood out to me.

Believe me when I say this was extremely difficult to decide. So I just thought that reasonably, if I was stuck on a desert Island with one of these two lists of music, which one would I rather have with me? I ultimately went with Amy. :)

Both are great lists, but being stranded on a deserted island, memories are all we'd have so i'd want to feel close to my loved ones ...... which is how FitzChivalry selected his songs.

Plus you included a Led Zep song, which won me over straight away:drool:

/tips hat to dazzlingamy

My hat off to dazzlingamy. What a fine competitor! We may have had the two most similar playlists leading to an extremely nerve-wracking, nail-biting 96 hours of waiting for Fitz.

dazzlingamy, I'd adopt your playlist if I didn't already have my own. It's really great.
