WOW that's a young Beagle!!! Did it's mother abandon it?

Oh, I just noticed anitram's post. Yes, pups should never leave a mother until 8 weeks minimum. They risk a lot of deficiencies, diseases, and social problems at such a young age.

Are you sure that puppy's only 3 weeks, europop? She looks older than that to me, but then I don't know beagle puppies too well. She is adorable, but if she's really only 3 weeks, she definitely shouldn't have been separated from her mother for at least another 3 weeks yet, and will probably need her food mushed and thinned with warm water to a gruel texture, as well as supplemental puppy formula for maybe another week, in order to get adequate nutrition and digestion. She'll need to be kept warm too--no lower than 70 F for wherever she sleeps.

I wouldn't be too worried about getting the puppy at that age -- just make sure to take it to the vet as soon as possible for a checkup and to start shots (the vet will tell you exactly when). While it might be optimal for a puppy to stay with mum for a bit longer than yours has if the puppy's essentially healthy, it's not going to be a big problem.

Over the years I've gotten three puppies at between four and a half weeks and five weeks and two days old. All did very well -- they weren't stunted emotionally or physically. In fact all were/are great dogs.

We also had a few litters of Cairn Terrier puppies and one momma was absolutely wonderful with her pups for the first three weeks, but after that didn't want anything to do with them. In her defense though, her puppies (there were three) were growing very rapidly and them nursing was taking too much out of her. They were very happily eating solid food and drinking water well at three weeks. We did keep them until they were at least eight weeks old, but after three weeks their momma had very little to do with them. We kept track of them for years and they were all very healthy and happy.

So don't worry too much about your little pup. With good care it will do just fine.

europop will have to teach it bite inhibition since pups learn this from their litter mates. As long as it's in a healthy, sterile environment, socialization is going to be the biggest issue since it's missing out on proper socialization and training done by the mother and litter mates before 8 weeks.

A reputable breeder would not release a dog before 7 weeks minimum. 3 weeks seems very shady unless it's from a puppy mill, was a rescue, or was abandoned, in which cases it's great the pup now has a good home, it will just be a lot of work.

Omg, I am going to steal your beagle europop

So freaking adorable!

I'm going to take my mom's beagle on a long walk today - it's a gorgeous day out and my sweetie deserves it.

I honestly don't think that's a 3 week old puppy because at that age they are barely keeping their eyes open, don't have great eyesight and a lot of times don't wag their tail (it's a learned response).

Judging by the pics, I'd say it's more like a 5-6 week old puppy....

Super cute though, and great colouring!

Bella started puppy kidnergarten yesterday. She's on the older side so there is only about one other puppy her size/age...there were a lot of little pups I thought she would squish!

All the little itty bitty puppies were so cute, I've already started talking to my fiance about when I can get another puppy now...
