Now use J. Swallow in something.

To get recognized!

You're helping a town that noone has ever heard of get recognized.. and in turn you'll get recognized for posting a thread with a questionable name

It's a win-win-win.

Hey pfan - did you watch the UCLA vs. Texas A&M game?

Yeah. Close games FTW.

I'm furious that Gus Johnson hasn't gotten to announce a great finish yet, but he's got three more games next weekend.

He's the best.

makes all our aboriginal placenames sound not so bad .

No, I think the Brisbane suburb of Geebung is still winning.

I also love Nar Nar Goon.

I'm quite partial to Crapaud, PEI

I also love some town names near where I grew up, just because they're hard to say. Paekakariki, Pauatahanui, Ngauranga, Kaiwharawhara, Eketahuna, Reikorangi ...

Then there's Peka Peka.

Is that a silent 'N' in Ngauranga?

Kaiwharawhara would be a great name for the next U2 album.

Completely fuck people up :giggle:

I grew up near a beach called Maraetai.....I always remember Dad telling a friend visiting from Belfast how to pronounce it..."Ma-right-eye"...... I can never think of it without wondering where my left eye is.....

No, it's more that the 'g' is silent. Actually, it isn't, and I can pronounce 'nga' properly, but for English speakers who didn't grow up around Maori, "nah-wrong-ah" passes for acceptably pronouncing Ngauranga.

And 'wh' in Maori is pronounced like an 'f', so "Kai-farra-farra" for Kaiwharawhara.

U2 should call their album Whakapapa. Yeah, try saying that one aloud ...

it reminds me of when split enz named their album waiata. that's a bit easier to pronounce, but still, it's not an english word so you'd still have a lot of people left wondering how it's supposed to be said.
