I'd love to have the summer off.

I'm also 17, which means I can't drive a car after 11PM, can't drink alcohol, cannot maintain my own residence, etc. So, there's a trade off.

Become an academic and get six months off every three years?

(Yeah, now you all know why I'm in it.)

Yes, and History.

Going to pursue History as my academic field. PolSci's what initially got me onto the idea of being an academic, but last year I realised History's where my passion lies.

This thread is more or less a chat thread, only with slightly more interesting, controversial people. Former members of the UYMFA Gang such as myself, NSW, LemonMelon, Dalton, and Unico frequent this. Phanan, LemonMacPhisto, and Screwtape are regulars. There's also a large Aussie/Kiwi population.

And I thought multiple crayons was enough...

I'm assuming the job is part of it. Any update?

Research-only positions in Australian universities are pretty rare nowadays, at least in the humanities, so yeah, I expect to be a lecturer.
