But is it more a case of cricket gradually, as it already is, losing it's appeal, rather than soccer gaining appeal. If cricket's appeal begins to deterioate, it will be replaced as the national team sport, probably by soccer.

I personally think it's inevitable that soccer will become number one, and when taking all things into consideration, our presence at WC2006 can be quite detached from the continuing development and considerable success of the A-League.

Free To Air coverage of A-League football is the key.
 
Have to strongly disagree.

As long as there is AFL, Soccer will never take over as this country's number one sport. We're probably going to be crap at the next world cup anyway.

It won't replace cricket either, I agree with timothius at least not in my lifetime.
 
Actually you raise a fairly good point there.... I kinda ignored the fact that Rugby is far more popular than AFL in NSW and Queensland. It's cause I'm a Victorian. :wink:

So in that sense, I'd say cricket I guess....

I just never think soccer will take over.
