U2's full band cover of Unchained Melody
Simply amazing. I like the original too. But U2's is best.

u2's cover of helter skelter is not better than the Beatles', by the way.
It's basically the same, but with worst production...which is weird since it was recorded 20 years after the original

John Lennon - Stand By Me
Metallica - Whiskey In The Jar
Roy Orbison - Bridge Over Troubled Water
Elvis Costello - (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding
The Rolling Stones - Ain't Too Proud To Beg
Pet Shop Boys - Go West
The Clash - I Fought The Law
Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends

Buckley now own's Hallelujah!!!

I may get flamed for this but Pretender's doing Dylans 'Forever Young', her voice is perfect for this song.

Duran Duran's 'Perfect Day', even Lou himself admitted this.

Oh, The Pretenders made one of my favorite covers ever, it's a cover of The Ramones' Something To Believe In. It's like it's one of their songs, they totally made it theirs. On the same Ramones compilation that has this cover Kis smakes a cover of Do You Remember Rock N' Roll Radio and, like The Pretenders, they make that song theirs. Both better than the original in my opinion. Very, very good!

Wow! Great thread.

The one song I can think of is Blinded by the Light by Bruce Springstein, whoever did that cover rocked!

I also liked the cover that Gwen Stefani did from Talk Talk. The name of the song escapes me .

Lots of good ones have been mentioned...

Duran Duran - Perfect Day
Pet Shop Boys - Go West

But... Oh my God, here's a case where the cover is infinitely better than the original...

Metallica - Astronomy

The Blue Oyster Cult original sucks!

Soundgarden-Thank U For Lettin Me Be Mice Elf Again (Sly and The Family Stone)

I like both songs, but Cornell singing the phone book would be awesome.

Pearl Jam-Crazy Mary (Lucinda Williams)

Tool-No Quarter (Zepp) this one is too close to call, but thought it deserved mention at least.

Nine Inch Nails-Metal (Gary Numan)
