Sometimes when I get impatient when my computer freezes,and the 'sand capsule' just freezes and I cannot close the windows..I just yank the plug out of the wall in frustration. I then start over...

Ques-
Am I doing damage to my computer?
When I shared this w/JesseU2 he gave me a HORRIFIED LOOK.

So what's up?

Please enlighten me here cuz I DO NOT know shit.

First it always helps to mention which operating system you're using.

But turning the computer off without shutting it down properly can potentially damage the hardware and corrupt data. Not that it will everytime, but it can happen.
And that's not very nice when you've been writing a 100 page Word document and find once the computer is restarted that Word can longer open the file. Ooooh... Its quite tragic.

First and foremost, auto save, or do it manually if you can remember.
Depending on what caused your crash, sometimes after like forever it will get over its tantrum. Mostly not. Dont turn it off, and dont rip the cord out! Hit your reset button on the tower. Best thing you can do, esp if Ctrl + Alt + Del doesn't work.
