Great game between Hawaii/Nevada last night!! Anyone catch it?
I saw it and I blame Nevada's coach for timeclock mismanagement; if he had the extra 50 seconds he burned, he could've, may have had a chance to get closer for a field goal attempt of his own....

Those two timeouts might have helped too. Icing the kicker is retarded.

So UConn's BCS ticket is in their hands. All they have to do is...win at West Virginia. Yeah, that's all. I'm not optimistic.

With all the upsets and guys getting hurt & having off games...shouldn't Tim Tebow win the Heisman? If they don't go down to FSU Matt Ryan probably has a shot...nice TD pass last night. But I'd go Tebow I think.

Whatever happened to Janikowski anyway? I was just thinking about him last night actually...

Sea Bass Janikowski and Mike Shanahan may disagree.

Adam Vinatieri thinks icing the kicker is retarded.

The sample size of icing-the-kicker attempts is way too tiny to make any reliable statistical claims about its effectiveness -- there is only anecdotal evidence by coaches, who claim that it gets into the kicker's heads, and by kickers, who claim that it gives them extra time to visualize the kick (and possibly time to clean up the field).

Any coach who burns timeouts to ice the kicker when there is time still left on the clock for a possible comeback should be shot.

The NFL version, where the coach for some reason is allowed to tell the referee that he wants the ball to be snapped, then wants the timeout retroactively applied before the snap, is especially outrageous. I really hope that someday some player gets seriously injured on a field goal play that doesn't count -- maybe then the NFL will fix it.

Sample size? Don't go all SABR on us now :) Can the Sons of Stanley Morgan website be far behinid?

Yeah pretty much. With no time left you try it because, what the hell, you can't save them. But take the SD/Indy game last week...if SD had used a timeout to ice Vinatieri with more than a minute left, yeah it would have been utterly mind-numbingly stupid. Did Norv have any left? Surprised he didn't use one...

Agreed. I think you'll see that rule changed this offseason; it's really stupid. It probably would be out already except it's kickers, and everybody hates kickers. Speaking of stupid.

It's kind of like the batter who calls time when the pitcher's in his windup...except in that situation the pitcher could just drill the guy, and then guys would think twice about the late step-out. I've only ever seen one guy do it though (that I can remember) - Pedro, to Gary Sheffield.

Who in the world started the tradition of having uniformed troopers, state police, the highway patrol, marshals, constables, justice of the freakin' peace escorting these coaches off the field??? why are they there????

This is a LONG standing tradition. I think I have seen pictures of Bear Bryant with trooper escort.

I spoke to some Louisiana troopers that escorted the friggin Louisiana Tech coach...(TECH, not State, but TECH), and it was a special honor for them.

As for Hawaii, I have been looking for a televised game all season. Either I am not staying awake late enough, or they just aren't broadcasted here.

I blame the Big Ten Network! :sexywink:

you know, i could've easily went to some other web site. but all season you have been my one and only source for the rankings.

ty mrbaw!! :sexywink:

Just got a ticket for our game against the Aggies in College Station this Friday, lengthening my streak of consecutive seasons in which I go to an away game other than OU in Dallas.

If we beat A&M and OU loses to OK State, we'll be in the Big 12 Championship game. Vurry nice.

How about this? If USC wins, you post my 'SC signature sign for 30 days...likewise, if ASU wins, I'll post the Sun Devil sign for 30 days...

No reneging, no excuses...deal?

PS...you have to agree to this BEFORE game time...

I would have agreed, but I was at work all day. :(

Yeah. well your team sucks. and you were online when I posted my challenge...check the time of your "set for life financially" in the BAR ... its all good, but ASU eats.

USC

I couldn't watch the game (not on TV up here) but I could even tell from the GameCast that ASU was sucking pretty hard tonight.

I was online, but I got home from my job interview at about 3:10 and had to leave to catch the bus to work at 3:20, so I didn't check anything else but the Bar, and even that was only because it was already open on my computer.

Even knowing the score now, I would have accepted. I love friendly sports bets.
