I do think that A Rush Of Blood To The Head is brilliant, and was the previous high water mark for them, but I think Viva has passed it.

The reason I don't regularly praise that record is In My Place. Fucking mush, like everything I mock X&Y for except not quite that bad. That and the second half is a bit slow and repetitive. GPASOYF is brilliant though. As would be Clocks if I hadn't heard it 82493781561937562 times.

For now anyway, I definitely prefer Viva.

Rush of Blood is awesome! I like it more than Parachutes which I also like. This new album sounds good but I'm not totally bowled over by it yet.

See, it's funny you say that, because I find parts of Parachutes slow and repetitive, which is why I don't like that album as much.

To each his own...

Plus Parachutes has some falsetto I'm not fond of... like on Spies.

God Put A Smile Upon Your Face on the other hand may very well be my favorite Coldplay song.

The huge difference between X&Y and Viva IMO is Chris Martin. That's pretty much it. Had Chris Martin been arsed to write an album's worth of good lyrics and NOT sing every note in falsetto, X&Y could have been great because, melody-wise, it's not that much weaker than Viva. But, as it is, Viva has the better lyrics, vocals, energy, and production, so it's no contest.
