He's good both ways; although I prefer his solo work.
I can't help with downloads, but the whole Derek and the Dominos record is good. I also like 461 Ocean Blvd. The Rainbow Concert record is good, too. His new stuff is crap.

Haven't I been helpful?

Not really, I enjoy music from every era of Clapton's career, even the lounge-rock 90s Clapton. Blue Eyes Blue is beautiful.

Well he was good with Cream, but I dont think he was the driving influence, Jack Bruce was. I love anything he did with Dominoes, pity that didnt last longer. But his album with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers is superb! I love his playing on it and I dont think he ever really equalled it. His new stuff is ok, some is good, some not so good, I like it anyway. Check out his version of Hideaway, on the Mayall album. Well worth a listen!
