is it bad that I own more of the "guilty" ones on your list than the "essential" ones?

6 out of the ones above...

I really can't make lists like this though... to me, all the music I own is essential

i'm surprised no one has included pink floyd - dark side of the moon, whatever zeppelin album, some stones stuff, and the typical other things that ordinarily make up these lists.

how did i miss that earlier?

do you mean you buy albums that are considered classics just to have on your shelf. you buy things for reasons other than to listen to them?

You're Australian and you have listed only one Australian album? And it's not even a real album.

Australian music doesn't suck that much. Well some bands do but not all of them.

I think people should own these albums AND listen to them. Only my opinion and musical taste, of course, but...

(In alphabetical order of artist)

The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People
The Clash - London Calling
The Clash - Combat Rock
Echo And The Bunnymen - Porcupine
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
Joy Division - Closer
Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West
Modest Mouse - The Moon And Antarctica
Muse - Absolution
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Pink Floyd - Animals
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Queen - A Night At The Opera
Queen - Queen II
Radiohead - Kid A
Radiohead - OK Computer
Radiohead - The Bends

Oh yeah, and that Achtung Baby album, whatever it's called.

I think it's kind of silly to list albums that you think people should have, even if they don't listen to them. That's half the problem with some music fans. They buy an album that the whole world knows, just because everyone else listens to that album. I'll take Dark Side Of The Moon as an example. I know so many people who just own that album or wear the famous prism on their hoodies...and they have the audacity to say they're big Pink Floyd fans. Based on the fact that they own that one album that's just "cool" to own. Then they sit around looking confused when you ask them if they like Animals or WYWH. Fans, my arse!

Superb list. And I agree about those fake Pink Floyd fans.
