Cd burner help!

My cd burner stopped working....it kept having errors while recording.

So I used a system restore point from a month ago (when I reformatted), restarted and it worked!

Then I downloaded the Windows Updates, reinstalled a few programs, and now it's not working anymore.

My anti virus software doesn't show any viruses.

What the hell is going on??

I'd love to....

I JUST reformatted a month ago...I can't again!

Note: the burner now works with Win Media layer, but not any other program.
