They actually made a comeback last fall I belive? I don't know how successfull it was, but I used to love them.

*sigh* I never said Rush was good prog. I did, with some justification, think that part of your problem with Rush was over-emphasis on musicianship or something, which is something people tend to level at prog. I do like prog. A few years ago I was deeply into Yes and ELP--possibly you hate them too (Jon Anderson's voice does bear a certain resemblance to Geddy Lee's.) I also like Pink Floyd and, yes, I like Radiohead a lot, at least I love The Bends and OK Computer. However, I'm not sure I'd classify them as prog. Not that they're non-progressive, just that prog has certain characteristics that they're definitely influenced by, but they don't necessarily possess those characteristics enough to make them prog. Though OK Computer is a very prog album in some ways, at least it starts off that way (Paranoid Android.)

I may never get into the prog underground scene now, since I seem to listen to prog much less than I used to, but I've heard there's good stuff there.

Did it happen at UVic by chance? They used to play there all the time! I saw them at a Week of Welcome concert there that I volunteered for.

there are many great canadian bands. Some of which have been around for a long time and are super-talented but are barely known outside Canada!!

Cohen is one of my faves of all time and Bruce has "fall", which must be one of the most beautiful songs to come out of this country.

Well... now that I think about it it's probably not that funny of a story to anyone else but me. lol But I'll share! Anyway... no, it didn't happen at Uvic, but at the Q. Do you remember last year when they had that contest to see U2 in Toronto? The Q's Election? Anyway, I entered the contest and made an election sign. I was feeling desperate though, and felt that bribary was in order. So one afternoon after work my friend and I decided to go sweeten up Rick Everett and brought him a mini chocolate cake complete with its own little election sign. Anyway, so when got to the radio station we were feeling a little silly to say the least and wanted to just leave it at the front desk and run! But... everyone on staff there that day thought it was too funny and insisted that we hand deliver it to him in the booth. We were like, no way! We just wanted out of there, but the production manager came out and thought it was a brilliant idea and he said come on, I'll take you. So at that point - thinking that this might clinche my win - we followed him. When we got to the booth he said 'you got to hurry though, because Rick is just about to interview Spirit of the West.'

At that point I took one look at him and said there is no way I am going in there with 'Spirit of the West!' lol, but there was no time, and the next thing I knew they flung the booth doors open and there they all were, all eyes on us. lmao!! It was really funny, and so I just went ahead and did my little speech and gave Rick the cake. The guys from 'Spirit of the West' just sort of looked at us like wtf? I felt bad because there we were trying to win tickets to see U2, while Spirit of the West were getting ready to be interviewed. lol

Anyway.... so it was one of those, 'you had to be there' moments, but once we left, we couldn't get over the fact that Spirit of the West were in there, and then we just sat in the parking lot and listened to the interview. Hahaha! I think we were hoping they would have mentioned us, lol, but of course they didn't.

Anyway.... moving along.....

Well I'm old school from up here in Canada and I happen to love RUSH - I used to have quite a thing for Neil Purt - loved the hair. It's all about the hair. I read an interesting article about them on the weekend and I had no idea the trouble they'd been through - and to come back and tour. I hear they are using the internet as a place to find out what fans want them to play and then they will use that to comprise their sets. Pretty frikkin cool if you ask me.

I unfortunately am not going to see them but am going to see YES and am looking forward to that reunion. But they aren't Cdn..oh well...
I also like Cash Brothers, Lowest of the Low - Ron Hawkins is good Cdn talent.

I used to get a Vancouver station on my satellite dish, so it was nice to hear the Canadian bands that US radio never played. I thought Tragically Hip was great, then I saw them live, and they SUCKED. Go figure.

This Vancouver station also carried Zoo Radio, which I listen to this day on tape

Again, hilarious. Considering I was buying and playing techno live as a dj before it was even known as techno, as also long before you even knew what the fuck techno was, I think I can call whatever I want 'shit'. In the early days techno was decent, that was when the original house influences were still audible. Nowadays most techno is that, pop shit. The fact that you consider it more musically advanced than Rush just shows how little your opinion on what is good music counts. :vomit:
