It's simply BAD how certain news stations and tabloids are exploiting this poor girl's misery, I feel particularly sorry for her children. Yes, Britney has made mistakes and obviously continues to do so, but the public is obsessed with her and the attention and pressure she's receiving doesn't help.

It just gets sadder and sadder. To see all those photographers outside her ambulance, it felt obscene.

Spears taken in ambulance after custody dispute

CTV.ca News Staff

An intoxicated Britney Spears was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital by ambulance after police spent nearly three hours trying to mediate a custody dispute involving her two young sons.

Footage of the incident shows a conscious and smiling pop princess being taken out of her Beverly Hills home on a gurney late Thursday evening. Hordes of photographers and celebrity reporters lined the street leading into her gated community throughout the ordeal.

Police were called to the pop star's home at 8 p.m. on Thursday following a custody dispute over Spears' two young children Sean Preston, 2, and one-year-old Jayden James.

By about 10:30 p.m., there were six police cars, two ambulances and a fire truck in the gated-community where Spears' house is located.

The 26-year-old turned over her two boys to ex-husband Kevin Federline at 10:50 p.m., confirmed officer Jason Lee, reports The Associated Press.

Lee said Spears was under the influence of an unknown substance at the time, but declined to provide further details. No injuries were reported.

Following the dispute, Spears was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center by police escort for tests to determine if she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and for a psychological evaluation, CNN reports.

Doctors at the hospital will decide whether to invoke a state medical law that allows a patient to be held for a total of 72 hours in order to conduct a psychological evaluation, a police spokesperson told CNN.

Celebrity website TMZ.com reports Spears' youngest son was also hospitalized. Her father Jaime and Federline were seen entering Cedars-Sinai, the website reports.

Federline, who married Spears in October 2004, was awarded temporary custody of their children after Spears defied court orders. The pop princess has limited visitation rights.

Spears, a tabloid favourite for her increasingly bizarre antics, has been involved in a drawn out and very public custody battle.

On Thursday, Spears appeared in court for a 14-minute deposition in her custody dispute, attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told reporters.

"The deposition proceeding did go forward today. It was scheduled for 9:45 to 11:45,'' Kaplan said Thursday. "However, it wasn't able to commence until 11:32.''

"You can imagine in 14 minutes there's not a lot of time to develop questions,'' he said.

Kaplan said another deposition will be scheduled for a later date.

Spears was photographed in a number of bizarre incidents last year including an umbrella attack on a car. After shaving her head, Spears spent a month in a rehab facility and was involved in a number of minor traffic accidents including an incident where she ran over a photographer's foot.

Now this is interesting and very, very sad.

from TMZ...

TMZ has learned K-Fed's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, will scurry to court this morning at 8:30 AM and ask the Commissioner to strip Brit of her visitation rights -- at least for now. We're told there may not be much of an argument and it's almost certain the Commish will see Kaplan's point. Attorney Tara Scott from the law firm of Trope and Trope will represent Brit -- awkward, since the firm has asked to withdraw as counsel.

As we reported, Britney is at Cedars-Sinai on a "5150 hold," meaning there's evidence she's a danger to herself or others -- others as in her kids.

Here's what's interesting. We've been reporting for several months now that Britney doesn't have a drug or alcohol problem -- that her instability is mental, not chemical. Well placed sources tell us what happened last night is not rooted in drugs, and that of late, her mental state has deteriorated to the point that what happened at her home was not unexpected.

Stay tuned ...

It's extremely pathetic and ridiculous how far the paparazzi will go to get their money shot. Disgusting.

From TMZ..

Kevin Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, is headed to court this morning, where he'll ask that K-Fed get full custody of the kids -- at least for now. Brit's nearly estranged attorney, Tara Scott, will be there to represent the hospitalized popwreck, who is undergoing psychiatric evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, after a wild scene unfolded at Brit's house last night. TMZ is live at the courthouse.

yeah her mental state is just gone, gone, gone... I felt this from the very beginning. Not ur typical drug/alcohol abuser situation. She clearly isn't stable at all and hasn't been at least since she had those kids... At WAY TOO YOUNG OF AN AGE.. (of course, her sister is pregnant at 16 but seems slightly more stable for some reason, the impression I get anyways).

She seems bi-polar to me... people that are bipolar go to extremes with life, emotional state, a roller coaster of ups and downs. My mom, a therapist seems to think this, as do I. I feel sorry for her really and at this point, it seems she is hitting rock bottom here and the best thing for her is to go to a clinic away from all the media, far away from everything and remain there until she can get herself stable. This could take months and months to years. The kids need a stable mother at some point down the road but for now they should remain with k-fed and or he should retain permanent custody.

May very well be that she's mentally instable, the girl need help, she needs people who really care for her and want to help her get her life in order, for herself and the sake of her children. She doesn't need money-grabbing people around her who are exploiting every single step she does. I agree that the whole situation is not funny at all, it's simply sad what's happening here.

Bye-bye visitation rights!

A judge should immediately forbid her all contact with her children for a period of time, probably 6 months, at which point they can re-evaluate.
