K-Fed Retains Custody -- Brit Gets Visitation

Posted Oct 3rd 2007 7:03PM by TMZ Staff
Filed under: Celebrity Justice, Britney Spears
Kevin Federline will retain custody of his children and Britney will get monitored visitation -- this after a court hearing lasting nearly three hours.

There's another hearing on October 26.

K-Fed's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan says both sides presented evidence at today's hearing. He told reporters outside that he and Kevin felt the ruling was "justified."

K-Fed showed up in court. Brit wasn't there. We just got a shot of Spears gassing up her SUV at a Shell gas station in the San Fernando Valley

Britney I am sure loves her kids...her addiction may prevent her from loving them the way she should; which is to keep them safe, and put their well being infront of her own. It may also be an act of selfishness on her part.

I don't think that her actions are strictly due to addictions, i.e. alcohol, drugs. I really think she has something else going on, psychological wise. Possibly that she is bi-polar. She seems disconnected (could be drugs but I don't know), detached from everything. I mean even if you were doing drugs, alcohol, as a mother you would be so freaked out about being separated from your kids that you wouldn't know what to do. I am not seeing any of that with her at all. Maybe its a combination of disorders. Maybe post pardum(sp?) depression, severe depression, something along those lines..

Perhaps checking out from reality? Where is her family during all this? Not that they are in any better state of mind. Are they ALL that dysfunctional? :|

yeah, that would be due some psychological disorder I think. Anyone else addiction or not would not react that way on a consistent basis like she is. Just a IMO>>>

i agree her family is certainly no help either but who knows.. I mean it's the media that is portraying them as so dysfunctional. we really don't know when it comes down to it all..

Britney really needs to stop and take a look at herself. She's the only one that's causing her problems/issues, and she's the only one who can change them.

I guess I would have to wonder why Britney didn't show up in court. :hmm:

Even if she didn't have to be there, one would think she would be there for concern about what's going on with the custody battle for her children.

She just makes the public think she's not interested, by not attending ... which is really sad.

She needs help and someone needs to just get it for her. Take her to rehab or whatever and admit her ... Period !! They can't wait til she realizes she needs help or does it for herself, because that isn't gonna happen. She's too messed up ... someone else has to make the first move for Britney's recovery to happen.

The fact she's on a suicide watch doesn't surprise me ... but, the family does need to get her help ... and RIGHT NOW !!

Britney - Gimme More Rehab?
Posted Oct 4th 2007 8:23AM by TMZ Staff

Get those electric shears ready -- Britney Spears could be headed back to the Caribbean rehab facility where she infamously spent a whole 24 hours this March and then, of course, shed all her hair, if not her addictions.

OK! magazine is reporting that Spears is planning to head back to Crossroads Centre in Antigua over the weekend "in an attempt to get custody of her children." The facility, founded by Eric Clapton, has reportedly also treated Whitney Houston, another ex-train-wreck on the way back.

If she does end up going, she can't stay too long. As TMZ reported yesterday, Brit has to -- and we mean HAS to -- show up to court October 26 for another custody hearing.

Meanwhile, CelebTV.com talked to the woman whose car Britney bashed in that hit-and-run, and she wants to be rid of the whole episode. "I thought, oh my God, am I now going to be blamed for taking Britney Spears' children away from her? That's nothing I want on my conscience," says Kim Robard-Rifkin.

As the "trainwreck" turns...

NEW YORK (AP) -- Britney Spears is finally catching a break.

Her new song, "Gimme More," is now a success on the music charts -- despite the pop star's turbulent personal life and the humiliation of her much-panned performance at MTV's Video Music Awards.

This week, "Gimme More" -- released to radio stations in August -- topped Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart at No. 1 with 179,000 downloads, and jumped from No. 68 to No. 3 on Billboard's Hot 100.

The song is the first single from her new album, set for release November 13.

Good, hopefully this is a step in the right direction for her

Days after losing custody of her two kids, Britney Spears found some solace by reuniting with estranged mom Lynne Spears.

"Brit really needed her mom," a source tells PEOPLE. "So Lynne flew out and they met."

Spears will be needing all the support she can get. Documents released Thursday regarding her heated custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline revealed stricter measures, particularly placed on her.

With regard to her supervised visitation rights with her two sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, the document says: "the monitor shall terminate visitation immediately if any conduct or action by [Spears] endangers the minor children."

Before their next hearing on Oct. 26, she must complete three joint counseling sessions with Federline, three individual sessions, and twice-weekly random testing for drugs and alcohol.

Sources say Lynne and Britney's younger sister Jamie Lynn flew from Kentwood, La., to Los Angeles Friday evening. On arrival at LAX, the two were mobbed by photographers.

Jamie Lynn, wearing eyeglasses, kept her head low, later covered by the hood of her sweatshirt. Despite the attention, the women made a quiet exit from the terminal, declining to comment or to acknowledge the group.

Around 3 a.m., Lynne paid a visit to her daughter's Beverly Hills home before driving the two of them to Spears's new Malibu pad.

The mother-daughter pair had a falling out back in June, when Spears handed her mother a reportedly upsetting letter. According to TMZ, the letter asked that Lynne stay away from Spears's sons if she is taking any medications that might cause her to be impaired.

Spears told reporters at the time, "I'm praying for her right now. [I hope] she gets all the help she needs."

Says a source, for now, "Everything's great."

Brit to Parenting Coach -- Buzz Off
Posted Oct 8th 2007 11:29AM by TMZ Staff
Filed under: Celebrity Justice, Britney Spears

Sources tell TMZ the real reason Britney Spears didn't answer her buzzer when her kids came to visit last Thursday is because she wants nothing to do with anyone who tries to tell her how to be a good parent.

We're told Britney was well aware that her kids were coming at 10:00 AM. She had telephone conversations about it 10 minutes earlier. Britney's big concern was that she didn't want the parenting coach, who was in tow, to tell her how to interact with her kids.

So Brit's solution was to not answer the buzzer, as her kids cried in front of the house and waited for 40 minutes before K-Fed's bodyguard pulled the plug and returned home.

Britney has been told for a year that she needed help in raising her kids, but she has steadfastly refused to even get a proper nanny. Now the squeeze is on and she's not responding.

And even though our sources say Britney will show for court as ordered on October 26, another source tells TMZ Britney has repeatedly said she would never attend a court hearing.

And finally, as if her life isn't messy enough, we're told Britney is running out of money. Even though her single is a hit, the prospects of the album remain questionable because she's not going to promote it or tour. And we're told she spends like a crazy woman.

De'nile ain't a river in egypt!

I think it's a possibility that no one has told Britney she has to do anything for so long now that she actually believes it is a fact that she can do no wrong. That combined with possible/probable mental health issues creates the mess she is in at the moment.

oh god help us all.....................

she still thinks d'enial is a river in egypt ...

Britney Wants Job As a Bartender? Huh?!
Posted Oct 8th 2007 3:09PM by TMZ Staff
Filed under: Train Wrecks, Wacky and Weird, Britney Spears

A court-ordered-sober Britney Spears applied for a new job on Thursday as a ... wait for it ... bartender!!

Sources inside the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif. tell TMZ Brit checked in Thursday and at around 10:30 PM went downstairs and started talking with a bartender.

We're told Spears told the bartender she wanted to do what she did -- then asked for and obtained an application from the night manager to work in the hotel's "Cameo Bar."

We're told the application is currently with Human Resources. The hotel website says the bar "serves imported and California wines, premium well drinks and appetizers ... signature drinks include Blood Orange, Key Lime and Raspberry Lemon Drop martinis."

This might be the worst possible gig for a mother trying to regain custody of her children, who is required to undergo drug and alcohol testing.

Spears checked out the next morning. No word yet if the hotel is considering hiring Brit Brit to pour their booze.

and yet still more...

Britney is with Her Kids -- Right Now!

Britney Spears is-- as we speak -- visiting with her children at her home in Malibu.

An eyewitness tells TMZ that Sean P. and little Jayden were escorted into the house this morning, along with what appears to be the court ordered parenting coach. Britney is now walking around her gated community, dressed in a super short pink mini-dress, with the boys and the same nanny that was with the kids at Kevin's house.

Her hair is in a ponytail and she's talking on her cell phone. Quality time!

Story developing ...

Spears Wins Modified Visitation Rules
By GILLIAN FLACCUS, Associated Press Writer
Thu Oct 11, 7:23 PM

LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears won modified visitation rules Thursday that allow her two boys to spend one overnight a week with her, and the pop star's attorney requested her mother become the required court-appointed monitor.

Spears made a surprise appearance in court after Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon held a morning hearing on her emergency request to expand visitation but declined to rule. He gave attorneys for Spears and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, who was recently granted custody, more time to discuss the matter outside court.

Spears was previously allowed monitored visits with the children but no overnight stays. Neither she nor her attorneys spoke to reporters after the closed, afternoon hearing.

During the earlier open hearing, Spears' attorney, Anne Kiley, argued that overnight visits were critical for Spears to bond with her sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James.

"I do think it is an emergency for them not to have overnights with their mother, which they've always had," she told Gordon.

"What possible concern can he (Federline) have if there are monitors present?" she asked.

Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini announced the new visitation order but he could not say who would be the overnight monitor.

Federline, who was not at the hearings, agreed to the modification, his attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, said outside court.

"He agreed _ didn't have to _ but he agreed that he would allow that additional time ... provided that there were additional assurances in place that made him feel the kids were protected," Kaplan said.

Spears' attorney had asked the court to consider her mother, Lynne Spears, as the monitor.

Kaplan would not say when the first overnight would occur or who the monitor would be, but he said he opposes use of family members as court-appointed monitors because of a conflict of interest.

Spears, 25, and Federline, 29, were married in October 2004 and divorced last July. They both must appear in court Oct. 26 for a status hearing.

In the original Oct. 1 order requiring Spears to relinquish custody, Gordon granted her some visitation but said a monitor must be present and the visits could be cut short if the monitor decided Spears' behavior endangered the children.

When he took the children away, Gordon said Spears had engaged in "habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol." He ordered her to undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week.

He reiterated Thursday that he worried that the pop star's troubles could harm the children.

He also criticized Spears for not complying with previous court orders, repeatedly saying that the current custody order taking her children away resulted from her own choices.

Gordon told Kiley he had not received any of Spears' drug test results directly from the lab, as he had ordered, although he had an attorney's declaration that she has passed them.

Federline's attorney, Kaplan, said it was frustrating that Spears' lawyers would try to change the Oct. 1 custody order so soon after it was issued.

"If she could remedy all of those problems ... in one week, that would be a miracle," he said.

When Spears arrived at the courthouse dressed in blue jeans, a long black sweater and wearing aviator sunglasses, she said "I'm doing good." She sipped from a Coca-Cola can as she approached the courtroom. An attorney took it from her and placed it on a bench as she entered.

Spears played nervously with her jeans pocket as she stood to be sworn in.

The commissioner allowed Spears to keep her dark sunglasses on, telling her, "I understand you have a medical condition." The condition was not disclosed.

Reporters were then asked to leave and the hearing continued behind closed doors.

She spent about an hour in the courtroom, then drove off in a white Mercedes-Benz swarmed by news media at a stop light. She escaped only after sheriff's deputies ran from the courthouse to aid her.
