Did anyone end up listening to my band's songs? Just interested in reactions.

Not sure if "Leave the Light On" caught me very much but I enjoyed "A Coming Age".

Cool! Thanks for the feedback. It's the opposite of most of the feedback I've gotten so far, so it's a nice change of pace.

i'm going to bring this post here bc honestly i feel bad about hijacking the aussie politics thread.

Your stance surprises me, Khan, and it's a shame trying to discuss it in FYM would be a shitshow. Clinton would probably be a moderate Lib in Australia or a Nat in New Zealand, but given that the alternative is just about an existential threat, it seems to me that any responsible left-wing voter will suck it up at the top of the ticket and make their ideological statement by choosing green/socialist/whatever candidates down the ticket in congressional/judicial/dogcatcher races. That of course leads to my big problem with the US Greens, that they don't seem to put all that much energy into these other races. It makes it hard to take them seriously as a viable and worthwhile alternative.
how so? is it the extreme dislike of clinton? i know the green party has no chance of winning, but at least for this election, i'd rather vote for policies over people. stein isn't the best leader (i guess? since she hasn't held any sort of office i don't know but i'm realistic in knowing a person shouldn't have their first job as ceo, just as a person's first political office role probs shouldn't be president) but i do like her positions better than clinton's. clinton's come to the left on a lot of stuff, especially since sanders has dropped out, but i wonder 1. if it's all for show and she'll revert back to her centrist self if/when she's elected, 2. what about the other stuff she hasn't changed policy on, like tpp or fracking. i won't get into any of the conspiracy theorist shit since it's all unproven, or the emails, though i will say simply the fact that the whole thing was dismissed when more emails are coming out is troubling.

stein did an ama on reddit and was asked that very question, and basically said what i figured she would: the reason more greens don't run for local and state stuff is so they can focus their energies on the presidential ticket or whatever. or something like that. i think it should be the other way around, start small. get city mayors who are green — i'm sure in the bigger more liberal cities it would be easier, of course, although it might be surprising because there's cities out in the midwest that have started relying on renewable energy and stuff. the word green isn't a dirty word anymore to some people. basically, the cities and states with lots of solar and wind energy as well as good recycling programmes would probably have the best luck electing green politicians (of course there's more to the green party than this, but this is what everyone thinks of first and it's also in the party's name). i wish coalitions were possible but our country's voting system sucks ass.

if i didn't live in such a republican part of the country (i seriously just moved from a city that was blue in a red state to a red city in a red state, ugh) i'd consider running for some kind of public office on the green party.

Shit I totally forgot to reply to Khan's post or to do my part for keeping things alive. Navigating this place by the New Posts feature alone has come back to bite me.

But I do like Ashley's suggestion of Gnaw Bone for the next location. Should get there a few weeks before the next U2 album drops.

Right, here's my long-overdue reply!

i know the green party has no chance of winning, but at least for this election, i'd rather vote for policies over people.

This is, I think, literally the last election where this is wise. Clinton may be many things, but when it's a two-horse race and the opponent is an actual fascist (the definition of which may be somewhat vague and often abused, but I am increasingly convinced does accurately apply to Trump), it's time to iron out one's scruples and stop the greatest threat. The French are surprisingly good at this. In their system of multiple-round elections, on numerous occasions the left has turned out to support conservative candidates to ensure the National Front fascists don't get in (and vice versa, conservatives supporting the Socialist Party to defeat the fascists).

I should say I have always been consistent in this, even when in the full flight of idealistic youth (to respond to the bullshit suggested on FYM that some left-wing posters are endorsing a vote for Clinton out of moving closer to the centre). I have always condemned first past the post electoral systems as stupid and unrepresentative; and when I have voted in them or expressed an opinion on an election under such a system, I have voted for/advocated whatever candidate is most likely to defeat the right.

I definitely agree here. Why the Greens would commit to the presidential ticket - the most expensive race with the lowest chance of success - rather than stand for local and state seats where they are more competitive is baffling. Every dollar achieves more the further you go down the ticket. This is one reason why I do not find the US Greens nearly as credible as their international counterparts: they are poor at campaigning, poor at picking their battles, poor at selecting candidates, and poor at even articulating their goal. Come on, even the New Zealand Greens are not yet a party of government despite the country priding itself on a "clean and green" image - how the fuck do the US Greens think they are going to achieve anything pissing money down the drain on a presidential tilt? Pick a very left congressional district, develop a grassroots campaign, win it, and use that person's presence in Congress to build for the future. It's not hard.

Mom was so confused about that message on my step dad's Facebook today, lol.

Oh for the days when the answer to that was "in about two hours".

On the other hand, I now have a life.

Guys. Guys. The cubs won a NLCS game for the first time in 13 years.

And they won the first game of the NLCS for the first time since 1984.

I'm so fucking hyped right now.

I'm a horrible son.

My dad and I took the train from Auckland to Wellington and back over two days. At some stops you can get off and have a walk on the platform.

On the way back, we stopped at Palmerston North. I told him "I need a stretch, I'll be back soon. If we set off and I'm not back, I'm in Palmerston North".

I got up, had my walk up and down the platform and thought to myself....you know what might be funny?

I snuck down the platform, got onto the cafe car. We set off, I wait 10 minutes. I buy a bottle of wine, I turn up back at our seats thinking I'm funny, and this isn't verbatim, but he basically said to me: "I didn't move because I knew you were pulling some shit like that".

It is good to confirm we are definitely genetically related.
