scruffing for the most part shouldnt be painful in anyway to the cat

for most cats it triggers them to stay still

so when you scruff them by the neck pick them up and with your free hand SQUIRT the damn medicine in

Sorry I'm late - the towel trick can help, but if you guys are still having a hard time I would call your vet and see if they have any other alternatives. They may be able to do a once-a-day antibiotic - they generally come as pills but usually can be formulated in flavored liquids that might taste batter then the current stuff. Is it Clavamox or Cefa-drops or Amoxi-drops? Most cats don't like their flavors.

A pill might be easier than the liquid if you coat it in something yummy like a meat flavored baby food and then use a pill popper (pill gun).

So I'm nearing the end of my rope--not much seems to be getting inside him. He's on amoxicillin for a kidney infection--but get this--it's the pink stuff, like bubble gum for people. No wonder he hates it! I'm sure they're closed by now...perhaps I'll give them a ring in the morning. I think they're only open every other Saturday and I have no idea if tomorrow will be the Saturday they're open or not.

Sounds like what I took all the time when I was little (chronic ear infections).

Did you try sitting on him? If you sit on him, there's no way he can go anywhere, or be able to use his claws. It also frees up your hands to open his mouth and steady his head while someone else squeezes the medicine in.
