Ok, so i was thinking of making a compilation cd for a birthday...finding songs that are birthdayish, yet not cheesy 'it's your birthday' is difficult. I'm also picky about the type of music i like, so....any thoughts? Ideas? Or is it pretty much impossible?

'Landslide' by Fleetwood Mac or Smashing Pumpkins would be fairly fitting

'The Times They are A'Changin' by Bob Dylan may also be a possibility

'Unhappy Birthday' is a great song by The Smiths. Funny stuff.

"It's a Wonderful Life" by Sparklehorse--a sweet intro or closing song with just a tiny birthday mention.

"Do You Realize" by Flaming Lips -- uplifting but not cheesy 'you're special' message

Concrete Blonde has a little rock ditty called "Happy Birthday." But the word 'happy' is used loosely.

While its not really a birthday song, I always steer toward a Mexican restaurant for the purpose of :drunk: by the end of the evening I've usually compelled the mariachi's to sing a wailing rendition of Guadalajara!

It may not suit your needs but it'll sure jazz up your CD!
