Sounds like Bono wrote that on the plane yesterday.

That's a complete mess. It has no literary merit.

Now this is poetry:

Dulce et Decorum Est
Wilfred Owen

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!–An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime...
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,–
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

"Who buys U2 records anyway? It's just music for plumbers and bricklayers. Bono, what a slob. You'd think with all that climbing about he does, he'd look real fit and that. But he's real fat, y'know. Reminds me of a soddin' mountain goat."
"And as for Bono, he needs a colostomy bag for his mouth."

On-the-fly HTDAAB tracklisting:

City of Blinding Lights (mixed better, not neutered)
Native Son (a kick-ass finalized version)
All Because of You (with better lyrics and a stronger vocalization on the chorus)
Xanax and Wine (see Native Son notes)
Smile (with more backing vocals from Edge)
Yahweh (see City of Blinding Lights notes)
Love and Peace or Else (some better lyrics, more guitars, better solo, longer outro)
Electrical Storm (original, not William Orbit)
Miracle Drug (If God Will Send His Angels treatment to verses--especially the "freedom has a scent..." prechorus and the "luuuu-uhhh-uhhh-uhhh-uhhh-uhhh-uhhhv" part of the second prechorus)
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own (stripped down instrumentation, better mixing)
Original of the Species (the single version)
One Step Closer (more sparse and ethereal).

If ee cummings is to blame for the popularity of writing entirely in lowercase in a pretentious and often elitist manner then I'm probably leaning over to Axxo's side a bit more.

Throw in a 'kneel' or two and you have the next U2 single.

that's a nice, nice poem, but don't use it to excuse the fact that you don't udnerstand e e cummings

now air is air and thing is thing:no bliss

of heavenly earth beguiles our spirits, whose
miraculously disenchanted eyes

live the magnificent honesty of space.

Mountains are mountains now; skies now are skies---
and such a sharpening freedom lifts our blood
as if whole supreme this complete doubtless

universe we'd(and we alone had)made

---yes;or as if our souls, awakened from
summer's green trance, would not adventure soon
a deeper magic:that white sleep wherein
all human curiosity we'll spend
(gladly, as lovers must)immortal and

the courage to receive time's mightiest dream

OH, I GET IT ALL NOW!

E. E. CUMMINGS = RADIOHEAD.

Well, now with that settled, let's move on to things that aren't pretentious wank by people who actually have no artistic talent but think they do.
