best songs from the 50's and early 60's

hey losers.

i've gone through three stages of my "musical life".

the first of which was loving classical music. my aunt got me hooked when i was about 10 with simple beethoven and bach.

a few years later i found myself listening to "oldies". by oldies, i mean early beetles, the right. bros., etc. (the third stage, for anyone who cares, is the current one)

i was at this "thing" on the weekend, and a really classic song from that era came on and i liked it a lot. i remember hearing that song all the time when i used to listen to an oldies station that no longer exists.

your job is to tell me all the best songs from this period in time, and maybe i'll see the name of it.

even if i don't, there's so many good ones out there that i can't go wrong. i need to download some good stuff here.

and wasn't music back then just grand? it was all so POP! most of it, while relatively simple almost never sounded forced.

anyway, give me song titles and artists of some of the biggest songs to come out at this time.

thanks.

that stuff (plus all "eras" of the beatles) is pretty much all i listened to until i was 14. unfortunatly, i draw a big blank whenever i try to think of favorite songs. i suppose i could raid my computer for the names of things on the few cds i've bought while trying to hearken back to my oldies days, but i'm lazy. at the same time, though, i'm tempted to put together a playlist that follows mrbrau's list out of the stuff i have (and then go download the rest).

maybe you heard be bop a lua.

nice list there.

but none of those songs are "the" song i'm looking for...

maybe it came out in the sixties? i doubt it though, it just doesn't have that feel.

i'm really fighting an uphill battle here if i can't name the group, i can't remember the song, i can't remember what it sounds like, and i certainly don't remember any of the words.

although, i think there might be a lot of "do do do's" or something in there. maybe that helps.

uh...

i could try singing it for you, but i don't know how well that would work.

here's some copy-&-pasted lyrics

Well
Be-bop a lula
She's my baby
Be-bop a lula
I don't mean maybe
Be-bop a lula
She's my baby
Be-bop a lula
I don't mean maybe
Be-bop a lula
She's my baby doll my baby doll my baby doll

Well she's the gal in the red blue jeans
She's the queen of all the teens
She's the one that I know
She's the one that loves me so

Be-bop a lula
She's my baby
Be-bop a lula
I don't mean maybe
Be-bop a lula
She's my baby doll my baby doll my baby doll

Let's rock!

Well now she's the one that's got that beat
She's the one with the flyin' feet
She's the one that bops around the store
She's the one that gets more more more

Be-bop a lula
She's my baby
Be-bop a lula
I don't mean maybe
Be-bop a lula
She's my baby doll my baby doll my baby doll

Let's rock again now!

Well
Be-bop a lula
She's my baby
Be-bop a lula
I don't mean maybe
Be-bop a lula
She's my baby
Be-bop a lula
I don't mean maybe
Be-bop a lula
She's my baby doll my baby doll my baby doll

Be-bopa-lu-la, she's-my-ba-by.

Be-bopa-lu-la, I-don't-mean-may-be.

That's all I remember

that's like 3/4 of the song. over and over. i recently bought some sort of gene vincent greatest hits cd. everything sounds like that. it's repetitive as hell, yet it's great.

The Crystals - Da Doo Ron Ron

Pop music doesn't get any better than this.

I like Buddy Holly a lot. Some nice Buddy Holly songs:

Everyday
That'll Be The Day
Peggy Sue
Not Fade Away

haha, nice. i don't think i ever knew who did that song. that's the thing i hate about oldies and classic rock stations, or at least the ones i've listened to. they never tell you who you've heard because they assume you're listening for nostalgia purposes and know everything
