FORMAT
I mentioned this in the preliminary discussion thread, but I'm sure it wasn't seen by many. I heard many of the complaints during the Beatles Survivor about how great songs from great records got shafted as far as making it to the final draw while songs like Eight Days A Week get to be in it. The idea was that the second best song on Revolver or Abbey Road or whatever might be better than the best song on some of the lesser records. I wanted to find a way to at least somewhat remedy this. So I have thought of a way to modify the format of the competition to remedy this problem, at least to an extent. It's a 'weighting' system, if you will.
First, we run a draw containing all 7 RH LPs - a 'Best RH Album' draw. When that is done, we will effectively have a 1-7 Interference consensus ranking of RH's LPs.
Based on this ranking, the LPs ranked 1, 2, and 3 will have 3 representatives each in the final draw. The LPs ranked 4, 5, and 6 will have 2 representatives each in the final draw, and the LP ranked 7 will have one representative in the final draw.
We'll run a normal draw for each LP, except that for the draws for the LPs ranked 1, 2, 3 will end when there are three songs left, the draws for the LPs ranked 4, 5, and 6 will end when there are two songs left, and the draw for the LP ranked 7 will end when there is just one song left.
So, for example, if the ranking after the albums draw was
1.OKC
2.Bends
3.Kid A
4.IR
5.Amnesiac
6.HTTT
7.PH
then OKC, Bends, and Kid A would get three songs each in the final draw, IR, Amnesiac, and HTTT would get two songs each in the final draw, and PH would get one song in the final draw.
Now, as for the b-sides, I've given them weightings as well. The My Iron Lung, Airbag/How Am I Driving?, and Com Lag EPs, as well as the as-of-yet unreleased IR Disc 2, will each get their own draw. There will then be a draw for the rest of the b-sides(that came mostly from singles) from 1993-1996(that's 15 songs) and a draw for the rest of the b-sides(that came mostly from singles) 1997-2007(that's 10 songs).
Basically, the three EPs and IR Disc two will send 2 songs each to the final draw, and the two 'rest of' b-side draws will send 3 songs each to the final draw.
So, in the end, the distribution for the final draw will look like this:
LP #1 - 3 songs
LP# 2 - 3 songs
LP #3 - 3 songs
LP #4 - 2 songs
LP #5 - 2 songs
LP #6 - 2 songs
LP #7 - 1 song
Singles B-Sides 1993-1996 - 3 songs
Singles B-Sides 1997-2007 - 3 songs
My Iron Lung - 2 songs
Airbag/How Am I Driving? - 2 songs
Com Lag - 2 songs
IR Disc 2 - 2 songs
Total: 30 songs in the final draw.
Once the final draw is set, we eliminate songs until only one is left.
And that's it.
