I don't like my list anymore. It was created by a sheltered girl.

This is going to be REALLY hard. Especially after my browser closed after I finally decided. 10 to 1, 10 being best, 1 being least.

10: Rufus Wainwright - Want One
9: The Postal Service - Give Up
8: Outkast - Speakerboxx/The Love Below
7: Her Space Holiday - The Young Machines
6: Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Hearts of Oak
5: Ryan Adams - Rock'n'Roll
4: The White Stripes - Elephant
3: Junior Senior - D-D-Don't Stop the Beat
2: Ryan Adams - Love is Hell
1: Radiohead - Hail to the Thief

It was really hard to choose putting Rufus Wainwright at #10.. so many albums were good this year, yet it's hard to pick which one was best.

good thing I saw this, eh?

I would have made another thread

Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher
Postal Service - Give up
Grandaddy - Sumday
Radiohead - Hail to the thief
Rufus Wainwright - Want One
Kid Koala - All my Best Friends are DJ's
the Constantines - Shine a Light
Mogwai - happy music for happy people
Manitoba - Up in Flames
Shins - Chutes too Narrow

this is not a final list and so I will not order them
there are still a few albums I want to hear first

such as, The Rapture, the Decemberists, etc...

Ok, some editing is necessary after buying another 2003 album.

My Favorites:

1. The Shins - 'Chutes Too Narrow'
2. Radiohead - 'Hail to the Thief'
3. The Strokes - 'Room on Fire'
4. White Stripes - 'Elephant'
5. Postal Service - 'Give Up'
6. AFI - 'Sing the Sorrow'
7. Grandaddy - 'Sumday'
tied
7. New Pornographers - 'The Electric Version'
9. Bouncing Souls - 'Anchors Aweigh'
10. Zwan - 'Mary Star of the Sea'

11. Dropkick Murphys - 'Blackout'
12. Cat Power - 'You Are Free'
13. Outkast - 'Speakerboxxx/The Love Below'
14. Pretty Girls Make Graves - 'The New Romance'

Explanation: I find the New Pornographers cd to be very similar to Grandaddy's in that I think they're both extremely well done and more solid overall than each groups respective previous efforts (yet I dont think either have as big of stand out songs as both of their respective previous albums). DKM must move out of the top 10 (dont cry IWB).

I spent all day working on this list

cos I'm alone and bored

here goes:

10. Kid Koala - All my Best Friends are DJ's

Give it up for a dj who has a lot of class. He doesn't butcher the songs he samples; he lets the old jazz and blues greats speak for themselves...he just gives them a modern day voice. Just a refreshing album to listen to all around.

9. Postal Service - Give Up

This is indie pop at it's best. The melodies addictive and the lyrics clever (if sometimes cheesy). I need say no more

8. The Rapture - Echoes

The title of this album is sort of fitting in that it sounds like Pink Floyd on Steroids! Even if his voice grates on you (and you will grow accustomed to it) the basslines and over all song structures exude talent and ambition.

7. The Shins - Chutes too Narrow

I was a skeptic at first. But now I realize that the Shins appeal to me in a way the Strokes could only wish for. It's the kind of album I finish listening to and then get a neurotic urge to put it on again

6. Manitoba - Up in Flames

absolutely brilliant!! 100% unique and original...yet very accessible. I guess, if the beach boys were mellowed out and had access to cutting edge electronic equipment, they'd sound similar!

5. Grandaddy - Sumday

Maybe the most immediatley accessible album of the year...and that alone give it reason to make the list. Well...not only that....that coupled with intelligent song writing

4. Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher

*drool* glitch *drool*
I can't remember the last time my ears had so much fun while my brain almost combusted

3. Four Tet - Rounds

put it this way...the first time I heard this album, I was so moved by the melodies, as non verbal as they may be, that I had to start writing poetry.

2. Radiohead - Hail to the Theif

all year I thought for sure this would be the number one album...just more radiohead prefection. I was about to pen them in as number 1 when....

1. M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas, Lost Ghosts

Please...go get this. now
More beautiful and emotional than Sigur Ros?
yes yes yes
after the introduction called "birds" the beginning of an incredible musical journey takes places (pardon the corny cliche). The tones are exceedingly warm and the songs flawlessly constructed. Even if you are not the one for instrumental electronica stuff you will enjoy this...I promise...not a moment of boredom. Plus, there are a few words...if somewhat subdued.

Honorable Mention:

Rufus Wainwright - Want One
the Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Dead
Mogwai - Happy...
