i use these resources a lot for work and/or research.

reuters is the best source for late breaking

the guardian is the least bias amongst the major news sources(i have found).

cnn is fairly comprehensive, especially for american stories.

bbc i find to be a lot like cnn but with a more international slant.

ananova is good for quirky stories, pretty good global view.
