Best lyricist [sic?]?

Morrissey:

Some girls are bigger than others, some girls mothers are bigger than other girls....mothers.
And if a double decker bus killed the both of us, to die by your side, well the pleasure the privelage is mine.

Good one. He rules.

"i didn't realise that you wrote poetry, i didn't realise you wrote such bloody awful poetry"

gotta love Morrissey:wink:

Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Thom Yorke, Joe Strummer and Mick Jones, Lennon/McCartney, Shane MacGowan, loads of others.

You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love 'til it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other 'til it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, children. It's blood. Blood screaming inside you to work it's will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it.

Hey Lemon, where is this from?

Dylan is probably the best ever. Lou Reed deserves a mention. As far as prominent artists since the 80's through today, I'd likely cast my vote for Morrissey.

Ben Gibbard
Maynard James Keenan
Bono
Conor Oberst
Thom Yorke
Jeff Tweedy

a few of my personal favorites

And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you"

Okay, getting serious now:

Roger Waters
Ian Curtis
Bono
Ian McCulloch
Jim Morrison

Bob Dylan, number one, easily. Period.

Next (in no particular order):
Bono
Roger Waters
Bruce Springsteen

I'm sure that if any of us listened to rap on a regular basis we'd be able to put some rappers in the list too. I've heard some incredible word twists in some rap songs.

bruce springsteen
lennon/mccartney
strummer/jones
armstrong/frederiksen (rancid)
bob dylan
rob lind (blood for blood/ramallah)
shane macgowan

i forgot mike ness.

I'm happy for Neil to share co-tennancy with most of those names ZD.

 I want to see him live one day, preferably after I get my motorcycle and do a tour of Australia and New Zealand...hey, I can dream.

Others would be Bono, Thom Yorke (I love his insane quirkiness), Eddie Vedder, and Michael Stipe.
