I was watching MTV the other day, and it got me thinking, "what is the greatest guitar riff ever written?" I ran through a ton of U2 riffs since Edge is by far my favrotive guitar player, but surprisingly, I didn't come up with a U2 riff as my favorite. My vote :

Walk this Way by Aerosmith

There's just something about the way that Joe Perry's guitar just comes out of that amp and makes you go "What the hell was that?" Anyways, I'm curious to see what you all think. Let the debate begin.

Anything by Hendrix (Purple Haze, Voodoo Chile, Little Wing, All Along the Watchtower, etc, etc, etc.)

Brian

Kashmir, by Zep and Outshined by Soundgarden.
The riff in Hold Me Thrill Me... is pretty good too. Also of note is the hook in Myserious Ways.

The more of these I drink the more Bono makes sense.. - Bean from the KROQ Breakfast with U2.

i might be wrong. i mean really, this is the funkiest rock riff ive ever heard. a non-radiohead die-hard fan also pointed that out to me.

street spirit.

err, u2....

i dunno but beautiful day has a great riff during the chorus.

elevation is really good, similiar to smells like teen spirit to me at least.

until the end of the world, thats just all out power. probably one of my favorite songs of all time.
