I Am The Walrus was eliminated last round. This means that Strawberry Fields Forever has advanced to the final draw, joining Twist And Shout, All My Loving, A Hard Day's Night, Eight Days A Week, Yesterday, In My Life, Eleanor Rigby, and A Day In The Life.

And with that, we begin the lengthy White Album draw, for which I have decided on the 'one thirty song round' option. Take a deep breath and dive in. There is a LOT of BRILLIANT work on this double record.

Rules: Vote for your LEAST favorite song. This poll will be open for 24 hours, at which point the song with the most votes will be eliminated from the competition and the next round will be started. This process will continue until only one song remains in the 'Please Please Me' draw, and we move on to the next LP. And so on and so forth.

In the event of a tie, the tied songs will be eliminated together, UNLESS it is a tie between the final two songs in any draw, in which case the voting time will be extended.

Once again, if any of you don't have access to this LP and would like to hear the songs you don't know, tell me in this thread and I will link you up via PM to a zip file containing the whole album.

Let's up the voting for people - the more participation, the better!

This is slightly intimidating. I have to go with Revolution 9, however, as it is the type of avant-garde that never really lives up to its pretensions.

This is going to be hard. :|

I'm personally pulled for Long, Long, Long to win this one, but I don't see that ever happening.

That's a great song, but Blackbird, While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Happiness is a Warm Gun are better by a slight margin. At least for me.

With such giants as While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Blackbird, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Helter Skelter, Julia, and Revolution 1 in its way, it will be a VERY steep mountain to climb for Long, Long, Long.

I'm not sure what I am pulling for in this round- probably Revolution 1. However, if the Love version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps were included, it would be my favorite to win.

WMGGW is really overrated.

Revolution 1
Blackbird
Dear Prudence
Helter Skelter...etc...

Are all better and deserve it more.

My vote this round goes to Don't Pass Me By, the height of White Album crappiness. (And that's saying something) :madwife:

Best on the album probably comes down to While My Guitar... or Blackbird for me. Underrated songs are Cry Baby Cry, Sexy Sadie and I'm So Tired.

I'm voting for Revolution 9 in this round.

Revolution 9, easily.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight! Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!

(that part seriously creeps me out)

Is Wild Honey Pie the old-timey one? Yeah, that one pretty much sucks. I mean, completely sucks.

There's way too much half-witted filler on The White Album.

Honey Pie is the old-timey (and NOT sucky :madspit: one), WHP is the one where they scream HOOOOOOOOONEY PIE for 30 seconds. :|

Oh yeah. They both suck.

Sorry, LemonMelon. It just makes me picture McCartney donning some old-timey suit and top hat and soft-shoeing around the studio or something, and I just want to smack him.

Just a little.

:shifty:

As for Yer Blues, I'd rather listen to some basic bluesy riffing and singing than a bunch of freaking noise.

Dear John: Save it for your albums with Yoko. Kthxbye.

I'm listening to Rev 9 right now...it's hilarious. Definitely more entertaining (to me) than Don't Pass Me By.

Rev 9 is surely worth keeping for the Can You Take Me Back thing or whatever....that's a charming little tune sung by Paul...

And there is music beneath the surface....

Is that "can you take me back" bit attached to Rev 9? I do like that little bit.

But not enough to revoke my vote.

Technically, that song is a part of Cry Baby Cry. :uhoh:

But it does have parts of Revolution 1 in it, so I'm happy about that. :)

OK, I've decided that I really like all of the following:

Back In The USSR
Dear Prudence
While My Guitar...
Martha My Dear
I'm So Tired
Blackbird
Julia
Birthday
Mother Nature's Son
EGSTHEFMAMM
Sexy Sadie
Helter Skelter
Long, Long, Long
Revolution 1
Cry Baby Cry

Every other song on the album can fall in a ditch for all I care. :tsk:

I literally don't know half the songs on this album, so I just voted randomly for Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey because it sounds funny :giggle:

 Doesn't your mother have it?

honey pie does not suck. :madspit:

Finally!

Okay, Wild Honey Pie HAS to go. It is terrible, sickening, horrible, ear-poisoning garbage. If we were describing songs in terms of tempature, Wild Honey Pie would get Absolute Zero, which is 0C Kelvin, or -273C. At that temperature, even Hydrogen and Helium are solids. That is how bad Wild Honey Pie is. Utter crap.

Some other things I'd like to get off my chest:
- There is a fair bit of filler on this album. That's the danger with making an album with 30 songs. Happened to the RHCP.
- Here's hoping for Monkey to win! It's a MAD song.
- Revolution 9 may be crap and pointless, but I would still rather listen to its 8 minutes than Wild Honey Pie's 50 seconds.

I believe that the Zoo TV Tour intro was inspired by Revolution 9.

Makes sense. Hasn't Bono always said they were most inspired by the White Album?

I'm surprised at how many people like Revolution 1... I think it's pretty bland myself. Is there a faster version or a remake I am thinking of? My Dad reckons its there best song...when I heard I was all like, "Meh."

Top 3 on iTunes:
1. Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey - The Beatles - 12 Plays
2. Eclipse - Pink Floyd - 11 Plays
3. Anybody Seen My Baby? - The Rolling Stones - 11 Plays

I can't believe While My Guitar Gently Weeps has one vote. Come on, you may not like it, but there's a lot of crap in the album that deserves to be voted out first!

There's no Beates-dissing in this thread; White Album is just pretty average overall. At its best, it's up there with their best and most experimental, at its worst....:|

It's no sacred cow. It's a good (not great) Beatles album, which is a sad thing.
