That song is sheer brilliance. I love it.

I like Arcade Fire but I wouldn't put Funeral in my top albums of the decade list.

I'd like to know why everyone chooses Absolution instead of Origin of Symmetry...

Absolution is amazing but I think it's a bit too long and it has 2/3 really weak tracks. Origin of symmetry is just so... powerful. And Citizen Erased may just be my favourite song of the decade...

Citizen Erased is definitely one of their best songs

but Absolution has my favourite Muse song ever, Hysteria, as well as Time is Running Out, Sing for Absolution, The Small Print, Thoughts of a Dying Athiest, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Stockholm Syndrome...

all Muse albums have a few songs that don't quite measure up imo, but I find myself listening to tracks from Absolution a lot more than Origin of Symmetry

How about the vastly underrated Endlessly and Falling Away With You?

But yeah, Origin is a great album, but I love Absolution more.

Looks to me like the spectacularly unlistenable "last" album from Smashing Pumpkins, MACHINA/The Machines of God.

it has maybe 3 good songs.

Stand Inside Your Love (a SP classic)
Try, Try, Try (their 3rd attempt at 1979)
and The Everlasting Gaze (alright)

It's their best album.

Just about anybody will tell you that, at the very least, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are the best Pumpkins records, and I personally would also rank Adore as one of their very best.

My favorite Pumpkins album is either Siamese Dream or Adore.

Mellon Collie is pretty good, but I've never been able to listen to that monster all the way through.

Have you heard Machina II?

Yep.

Been a Pumpkins fan since 1991.

It's Brian Wilson's "Chinese Democracy" right?

I like him and the Beach Boys, I just never got around to listening to Smile.

Why be so condescending?

I think condolences are in order for anyone who hasn't heard Smile

'never got around to' can't be an excuse

I don't know if you can decide on a Best Album of the Decade until it's over, not just because of what may come out in the next 3 years (we do have at least one more U2 and Radiohead record coming out), but also in terms of how well all these respective albums age. I love Funeral too, but it just came out a couple years ago. Will it be as strong in 2010?

Here's a shortlist of contenders that I won't bother to rank:

PJ Harvey, Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea
The Arcade Fire, Funeral
U2, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
Radiohead, Amnesiac
Super Furry Animals, Rings Around the World
Bob Dylan, Love and Theft
Sleater-Kinney, One Beat

Best of the decade thus far:

1. Kid A - Radiohead
2. The Fitzgerald - Richmond Fontaine
3. The Gulag Orkestar - Beirut
4. Is This It - The Strokes
5. Funeral - Arcade Fire

And an honourable mention for:
Hail to the Thief (Radiohead)
Amassakoul (Tinariwen)
AwCmon (Lambchop)
Youth And Young Manhood (Kings Of Leon)
Takk... (Sigur Ros)
Jacksonville City Nights (Ryan Adams and the Cardinals)
Illinois (Sufjan Stevens)

It's been a good decade thus far.

Listening to Neon Bible, yeah baby!! Looks like a pretty strong contender. Funeral was much more catchy, but I think NB is more mature and flows better.

Aerial by Kate Bush

There have been a lot of great albums in this decade but this one rises to the top in my book. Superb songwriting with almost every song being among Kate's best. It is an utter masterpeice.

We have a winner
