Def Leppard was not a hair metal band. Not all bands in the 80's who had hair were hair metal.

I've always had a soft spot for Def Leppard even though I don't consider myself a "true" fan, I've enjoyed all of their albums expect for their last one X (very weak effort IMO)
Def Leppard was an unfortunate victim of being lumped in with hair bands in the 80's up to the 90's, Leppard were and are better than any of those cock rock bands.
