GIBSONGIRL'S FAVOURITE!
Really?

Longview - Green Day

It's an amazing bass line, so catchy - I was especially surprised that it was any good when I found out the Mike Dirnt wrote it while on an LSD trip - nice.

Don't listen to her, she's just trying to scar my reputation. The Backstreet Boys deserve to be chopped up into little pieces, then tossed down the garbage disposal in the sink where they can be further sliced into tinier pieces. (Sorry, Pla. )

Oh, I've got a whole bunch! I judge a lot of songs by the quality of the bassline. I'll do this in alphabetical order...

The Chills - Pink Frost
Very simple, but it sounds so great.

The Clash - The Guns Of Brixton
This song is in the bass.

Echo And The Bunnymen - Crocodiles
Fast-paced and explosive...just like a post-punk bass riff should sound! (The guitar is also rather great in this one.)

Echo And The Bunnymen - With A Hip
The bassline actually reminds me a little of early U2 bass riffs (which isn't surprising, considering that Adam and Larry were the biggest Bunnymen rip-offs between 1980 and 1982).

Interpol - Evil
Very catchy.

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
It's basically just the synth riff that plays in the chorus, but it sounds great.

Modest Mouse - Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes
Like The Guns Of Brixton, the bass makes this song. The catchy vocals help, but that bass. It always gets stuck in my head.

Muse - Hysteria
If you listen this song, it'll become evident immediately why the bass kicks arse.

Pink Floyd - Money
Everyone knows this bassline. It's brilliant. Long live Roger Waters!

Pink Floyd - In The Flesh
The bassline is identical to the guitar riff, but it's awesome.

Pink Floyd - The Happiest Days Of Our Lives
The way Roger Waters and Nick Mason worked together on this one is great. Brilliant stuff.

Queen - The Invisible Man
Very cool!

Radiohead - Dollars & Cents
It gets me every time.

Radiohead - Where I End And You Begin
The bass is the best part of the song.

Radiohead - The National Anthem
See above.
did i mention I you?

Way to make me cry some big emo tears.
There's not even a bassline in "I Want in That Way" which, for the record, I am not a fan of.

That's probably the only good song to come from The Backdoor Boys.

Great choices, GibsonGirl...you got me scrambling for those songs in my iPod. Hysteria...

Nice selections - Fog, Kill Your Television, Higher Ground. I'd like to add Cake's cover of I Will Survive.

Oh, Queen's Dragon Attack has an amusing baseline too. As does Body Language.

And yes, Jack, Les Claypool is the man

-7/4 (Shorline)- Broken social scene is also a great bassy song.

-Micheal JAckson: Thriller
Even though I dislike the song, its got one of the best bass licks of all time.

- Almost any song by RHCP. Flee is an animal on the bass.

Flea was crazy on the whole BSSM album. His bass playing, sadly, has been less prominent on their last two albums.
