Atonement, No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood lead the pack. Also bear in mind that these awards are based on UK release dates, hence The Lives of Others up for Best Foreign Film this year.

Some interesting differences there from previous awards shows this year, most notably in the supporting actor / actress and foreign film categories. There's a chance of a posthumus award for Best Actor too. Not quite sure why American Gangster and Shrek the Third are nominated though.

I'm not quite sure how The Bourne Ultimatum is eligible for best Brit flick, I guess it's down to producing / funding sources. But truth be told it's probably the worst film out of the bunch.

One thing that's weird for both the BAFTAs and the Oscars is the snubbing of the Palme d'Or winning 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. Nice to see Lust, Caution nommed here though (I'll be seeing it this weekend hopefully).

Nice that the Brits aren't foaming at the mouth over Juno, save for a couple nods. And strange that AMerican Gangster is nommed, yet Ridley Scott is passed over for directing. Not that I'm complaining.

Nods for Paul Dano, Kelly MacDonald, and Tommy Lee Jones--very cool.

Samantha Morton - Control
- amazing. I hope she upsets Cate 'Showpony' Blanchett. Yeah, I'm an Aussie and I still don't want her to win. Overrated.

I am surprised 'Stardust' and 'The Golden Compass' didnt get more (or any) nods.

Atonement was the likely winner but it's a (great) surprise to see This Is England claim Best Brit film. Daniel Day-Lewis' mantle may well have finally collapsed but it wa sa shock to see both Julie Christie and Cate Blanchett lose out.

Fuck knows how that even got nominated. I'm tempted to think it's because of Ridley Scott.

Possibly, but then like Laz mentioned, it's curious that he wasn't nominated for a directoral award in that case.

Great recognition for This is England, although it'd have been great for Control to win.
