Are you all happy with where you live?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I like where I am (northeastern Pennsylvania) well enough. It's funny this subject should come up, actually; I went to see Dave Matthews Band last night, and Howie Day opened for them. He made a remark like, "Wow, look at all the trees back there on the mountain. They're so pretty, they don't even look real. All you guys from around here, you should be happy you're from around here."

True. Despite the mixed success of land reclamation where coal mines were, there's an awful lot of natural beauty very close by. We're tucked in the Pocono Mountains, and so there are good-sized mountains everywhere you look. You don't have to go far for good hiking, skiing, biking, canoeing, et al. if that's your sort of thing. NYC is about 2.5 hours away (theoretically; with traffic it's usually much longer) and Philadelphia is about 2 hours, so we do have the big cities close by as well. Plus, as other folks mentioned, my friends and family are pretty close by, and if Ewen lived here, it would be perfect. :sexywink:

Drawbacks, though: The local political scene sucks--lots of fiercely independent municipalities fighting each other over public works, the "old boys" networks, etc. There's not much cooperation or creativity about economic development, which my area really could use. And the area around where I grew up, instead of attracting a more diverse and organic mix of new businesses, is becoming increasingly strip-mall-ified and everyone thinks that it's progress that we have an Old Navy and a Cracker Barrel.

But overall, I do like it--though I do plan on moving away maybe next year.

^ I live 100 miles south of Pax (so read: the same for the most part).

This is my third "city" in three years. Prior to this location, I lived in a location near MsMofoGone (or so it sounds from her description), and before that I lived in a GREAT city in the Upper Midwest.

My ideal North American location just might be where Fah lives. Unfortunately, being a US citizen, it is not easy to move across the border and work.

I'm sick of where I live. I'm from London, Ontario...a good sized city, smaller than Toronto...but it just sucks. There's absolutely nothing to do here and we have seriously some of the world's snottiest people :madspit:

Plus I just can't stand snow. I would love to live somewhere in Europe or out west in Vancouver or Calgary

i love where i live. i'm close enough to las vegas that i can see the glow of the lights, but far enough to not be any part of the chaos. it's a tourist-heavy town, with many people visiting our casinos. i live very close to the lake mead national recreation area, which includes lake mead, lake mohave, and parts of the colorado river.

I am very happy where I live. The cost of living is not high, and I am only 50 miles from a big city. I have lived here all my life, and most of my family is here except for my only 2 brothers. The only thing I don't like is the cold winters.

I like where I live too.
I am also in a SW suburb of Chicago, but only about 35 miles from the city. From where I'm at, I can get downtown pretty quick. I'd miss Chicago if I had to move away but it wouldn't keep me from moving away.

I moved to the pacific northwest 27 years ago. I still miss the desert.:(

I can't imagine ever leaving Michigan. I spent the first 18 years of my life in the Upper Peninsula, right on the Wisconsin border. Then I moved downstate and lived in Saginaw for 5 years. This past April, I moved further downstate. I'm between Ann Arbor and Detroit, in a small, rural township. The peace and charm of the U.P., yet close to bustling areas. I love it!

The UP eh?

Michigan is strange. Like Livluv said, no inbetween. It's hot for a week, then like 24 inches of snow fall. Then of course it warms up, and it's all friggin wet and muddy and AHHH!

See, I'll move soon. Probably to the west coast of Florida or something. Did you hear that before?

Wow, props to you, BC! I honestly think I'd hang myself if I ever had to live in the UP.

I hate Michigan so much I'm going to post about it for a second time :madspit:

i recently moved back to the city where i grew up after being away at university for ten years. it's a bizarre feeling, because i know my way around town, but the city's changed, and most of my friends aren't around anymore. it's like being an alien in a very familiar place.

See that's exactly how I feel here, I moved back to the town where I grew up after my dad died and I know my way around here but ugh I totally feel like an alien and kind of unwelcome. :slant: Plus I spent so much time working towards leaving here and now I'm back. :|

I dislike where I live, but I am a very restless person in general.

Me too. I actually really like Norwich itself, but I don't see much of a future for myself here because I really don't want to be stuck in a clerical job making £12,000 per yer for the rest of my life. :| I'm thinking about moving back to the US, but I'm not sure I'd be able to find a job there either or that I have the money to do it. :sigh:

Is it even POSSIBLE to like Detroit?

Weather: No

Location: No

People: No

Cost of Living: No

Activities: Maybe. We have all the major sports teams.

Homicide: YES! If you're into killing people, this is the place to be! :|

I don't think I could live anywhere else in Canada than here in Vancouver (maybe Montreal...but, ugh, the winters).

The beaches, the mountains, the sushi, the great local music scene...all that and Todd Bertuzi to boot.

I am tired of Denmark. Its a beautiful country and my friends and family live here but i need a change. I have made some big plans, but moving to another country requires alot of cash. But i am working hard on making it happen.

I love where I love in north Orange County. We're not quite as affluent as our neighbors to the south but we live comfortably for the most part. My city is still small enough to feel homey...you are guaranteed to see someone you know at the grocery store, the post office, the bank, etc. so you don't feel disconnected like in some bigger cities.

It is a bit boring but we're just minutes from the beach, the mountains, amusement parks, shopping malls, hiking trails, museums, parks. Its a great place to live.

We're actually reconsidering a move to Palm Springs next year because we would miss living here so much.

Wow, I loved reading all your replies! For those of you that are unhappy, just remember that the grass is always greener on the other side. As nbcrusader said, the key is to find joy wherever you live.

I love where I live. U2 started their Vertigo tour 20 minutes from my home and played again 2 nights later! Then a few days after they played 2 gigs 100 miles up the road!
Aside from that the weather is perfect and the Pacific is beautiful.

I read part of the link as "../english/skilled/asses/....." :der:

My reading skills might hold me back on the asses(s)ment.

I'm happy anywhere BAW is happy...wanna stay here, cool..

Wanna head to the desert. all right by me...

Wanna go to Disneyland, let's go...

I can survive anywhere...I've even got Bend, Oregon still on the plate...maybe I can just leave December and Jan....stay with Doozer till the snow melts... who knows???

I do like Toronto, but I've lived in 4 different countries and multiple cities, so for me, moving around is a constant state of affairs.

We have everything here - only NYC, LA and Chicago are bigger cities in North America (excluding Mexico) and the diversity is great, really great food for cheap if you're willing to hunt around the neighbourhoods.

I do hate the weather, however. I want a Mediterranean climate, like that of my childhood.

Edit:

fah, how do you like the UBC campus? I'm thinking of applying to a professional program there next fall.

i have to admit i actually do like where i live [san diego] and i never cared for it until i went to live in north CA, where the weather was always cold and rainy, it was small town where everything closed tooo early, town people were not friendly and overall it was very dull [but the scneary was nice]. now i loove san diego, theres stuff to do, good historic places, despite being a major city it is still green, nice weather:cool:, beaches, diversity!!
i would like to travel in the US just to visit new places like Chicago, NY, New Orleans.
