I'll be 25 next month and I'm still at home. Mom was torn apart when my brother moved out so thats one guilt reason I'm still around.

Another reason is that rent in San Diego is astronomical (nothing like San Francisco mind you). Since when can a college student live in apartment thats $700 a month? Oi. I do need to move out soon though. I'm going crazy here!

that italian story is funny.

you know, i was born and raised in the US and i had plenty of friends who lived with their parents after graduating from high school for various reasons. and some moved back home after college to save their weddings and their first homes. i never thought that it was weird to be living with your parents after you turned 18.

I don't really see why you're so offended. Differences by generations DO exist. Why is it bad to mention it? All I am saying is that living at home well beyond age 18--especially late 20's--is generally much more common today in America than it was when I was a teenager in the 70s. I made it clear that I have no judgments about it--it's neither better nor worse, in my opinion, it's just an interesting change that many people have observed. Unless Sicy and fish are old enough to be your parents, they are of the same generation as you (I don't know how old they are). I am old enough to be to your mother--i.e., a completely different generation.

I think maybe today it's an economical issue--people are getting married and starting families later, and it's more expensive to live on your own, so it makes sense to stay at home--especially in big cities. I don't know how an 18 year old (or even a 25 year old) in NYC or San Francisco could afford to move out of their parents home today and stay in the city!

Yep, that's what I was paying in NYC 5 years ago... for a studio.

BUT, at least I didn't have car payments. Or clothes. Or food. Who needs all that crap.

I dunno.

I moved away to school last year, and moved back home this year when I transferred schools. I'm 20. I now live with my parents. And I think we get along better now thaan we EVER had. Partially b/c I left, partially b/c my mom got sick and now I was here to take care of her (she's good now).

Out of my entire high school, only like 5 people actually went away to school. Everyone else lives at home, with their parents still. I tdepends on where you grow up I guess.

But I wouldn't have it any other way. Trust me, living at home is much easier.

I live with my mom. She's got three chronic illnesses. A lot of people just assume that when you live with a parent at my age that you spend all of your time socializing, shopping, and partying. with no responsibilities. I take care of her and live my life as I see fit. It's funny cuz I am more independent of my mom than a helluva lot of people who don't live with their parents. I have not asked for a single dime since I was 16 and I don't feel the need to inform her about everything I do. I also cover all of our living expenses, since medication wipes her out. Sorry to go on like this, but sometimes people just drive me insane when they don't understand that you gotta do what you gotta do, and excuse me if I can't live my life the way that you think I should. Sorry to go on like this. Oh, and these comments are certainly not directed at anyone here.

omg i SOOOO want to move out. But the thought of spending money on rent just kills me. I'm waiting to put a down payment on a nice townhouse and rent out rooms to help. Seeing as how i'll never ever get married i have to come up with a brilliant plan SOMEHOW.

I just cant throw money into oblivion like that until i have no other choice. I'd rather see hundreds of dollars everymonth going to something that will be mine someday.

I'll be at home till i'm 30

I totally agree with you.

You're smart for not wanting to pay rent.

It is so hard to pay the rent. Me and my bro have to pay 700 $ a month... plus all the other damn bills It's so ARGH!! But he works like 2 jobs and gets to pay the major bills....It was so much better when my other bro lived with us I hardly paid anything! But he got married..... OMG I wonder what will I do if this brother gets married? I will be all alone! I can't move in wiht my mom she lives in Southern Cal!

I'm afraid to live alone!
