well i will be one of the many singletons on V-Day. and I actually sent a Valentine to someone so I did my part in adding $$ to the hallmark profits for 2004!

While it has never put a scrap of gold in my pocket, I believe that Valentine's Day has done me good and will do me good and I say, God bless it!

Oh wait, that's Christmas. Screw Valentine's then!

Just kidding. I like the candy, flowers and cards even if no one ever gives me any. I'm giving all my friends LOTR valentines this year.

I'll send you an Aragorn if you want!

They gave me plenty of Aragorn and Legolas, which is nice. But not alot of Ents, Gandalf or Frodos... :(

Those boxes are a real rip-off compared to when I was a kid. You don't even get envelopes anymore, or the themed stickers.

i'm single too, but i really don't feel one way or another about valentine's day...i'm sure i'd like it better if i actually got a real valentine tho lol ;)

i do get sick of seeing all the valentine's day decorations in the stores since before the christmas decorations were completely taken down...

and i was :grumpy: when i couldn't find any daphodils or tulips to buy at the grocery store tonite cuz everything was roses and heart shaped balloons and chocolate in the flower section, like valentines day had exploded

:hmm: although next week all the chocolate that didn't sell will be on sale :D

 :lmao: I was wondering if someone was going to mention "Love Day" in this thread :)

Someone as old as me seems to recall St Valentine's Day was about expressing secret love, you send a card or note to someone signed.."from a secret admirer"
The chocolate, lingerie, dinner and things exchanged with a spouse or regular lover is a relatively new thing bought to you by Hallmark and KMart...don't believe the hype!!
I heard...on the radio:wink:
that it began as with most festivals, in pagan Rome. It was a day when a man and woman were matched up for the following year by drawing their names at random . Not quite sure of Valentine's story and why he was canonised and what he has to do with love. Anybody ? Anybody?
My friend has a cat called Valentine:heart:

I heard Dean Martin on the radio first thing this morning:heart:
That's Amore.......
everybody loves somebody.............sometime

I'll just leave shall I...I'm gonna go to the couch...
I LUVS YOUSE ALL:hug:

woops...back:wink:
It is a leap year...so I think that means...something
???

Adam let's be virtual valentine's this year

Oooooh

Really? That sucks. :(

I saw a box of Wonder Woman ones at Borders last Saturday, but I passed.

Before I was ever attached to anyone romantically, my mom and I would eat a red dinner for Valentine's day. Similarly, we eat a green dinner on St. Patrick's Day, and an orange dinner on Halloween. I always exchange Valentines with my mom, wear one of my heart necklaces (I have a very nice pewter one), and of course something red. It's been that way since I was a toddler.

It's just a fun way to spend the day....of course love should be celebrated all year, just like you're supposed to love your parents all year, but there's mothers and fathers days....it's just a way to bring extra attention to it. I don't feel sucked in by commercialism at all.

Of course, I totally understand why it depresses people.

I was wondering what this thread was about. Today I was sharing an apple and custard danish with a German water engineer who informed me that in the USA St Valentines day is really huge. And that people give cards etc to everyone they love eg Mum, Dad, etc. In Australia its a romance day intended for lovers only not for errr giving your Mum a card. As for mechandise in the stores, we go from Xmas, to Back to Shool, to Easter - no Valentines kerfuffle. Weird

True love or a relationship should be celebrated EVERYDAY.

Again, celebrate your relationship EVERYDAY like it is Valentine's Day, and don't get depressed if you are not in a relationship when you see marketing materials in a vendor's display case.

So wait, what you're saying is, I shouldn't be depressed JUST when I see marketing materials in a display case.

Instead, I should be depressed EVERYDAY because I'm single.

Zoney, you have made me proud.

I like it

I had a winderful surprise when i got home from work today. There at my front door was a beautiful flower arrangement. When I opened up the card to see who it was from, it said love, Richard, your brother. It made my day!

God Bless America!

In all seriousness, I really miss being able to go to a store and walk down two full aisles of holiday merchandise...and all the specialty chocolates....like Valentine's Reese's Pieces and M&M's...and the fact that afterwards everything is 50-75% off...

Easter is the best holiday for that. I used to always joke that I was going to get a boyfriend just for Easter to buy me everything in the Easter aisles, then I'd dump him the day after. :D:up:
