Any hard-core indie music lovers?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Yeh when i think of britpop i think of the whole 90's blur/the verve era. I cant imagine labelling a band nowadays as britpop.
(im into everything, wouldnt say im a huge hardcore indie fan, but hell im going to reading festival this year!! franz ferdinand, the kaiser cheif..hurrah!)

I think though declaring oneself to be hardcore into indie music, makes one decidedly NOT indie. Ah well. According to the Hipster's Handbook anyway.

Like I said a couple pages back - if you want to discover some cool, new bands, read some music blogs and some worth a shizz music magazines.

Awwww, i wouldnt know.Try Coldplay, Beyonce etc.....

The Killers are just as everywhere and mainstream as Coldplay. And I haven't heard about Beyonce in years, certainly less so than some of these "indie" bands.

I thought indie was meant to be obscure shit that adhered to a certain style and sound.

I take indie to mean, good shit, but not appreciated/known by the mainstream.

glad to know there's no bad music being released through independent outlets, and kudos to you for finding the perfect genre. if i listen to bands no one's ever heard of, i'll never have to hear a bad record again! huzzah!

since none of you guys would help me, i tried to make cookies using the track listing for the joshua tree, but i nearly blew up the kitchen. i thought it best that i just return to what i already know how to do.

On a somewhat related note, am I the only one that thinks The Killers' "Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll" is the lamest song since "The Final Countdown"?

hey, 'the final countdown' isn't lame. that's some genuine metal right there! :shifty:

Yes. youre right.Killers are everywhere and luckily i had luck to hear mr.Brightside on my radio and i am glad because of it.And as for the Beyonce and the rest....i have nothing against Beyonce in the first place,,,but Coldplay...i just feel it is unnecessary melancholy. But that is not the subject here anyway. To tell the truth my mind just ....i couldnt name few mainstream bands to give you an example. Anyone??I feel like... blank!
And as for indie music...i always discover someone new you surely cant hear on the radio or see the video!

Oh, there's bad indie stuff, but, unlike bad mainstream stuff, I am not being bombarded with it. I find the good indie shit and leave the bad shit alone.

I don't know if they're indie, but I love Franz Ferdinand, the secret machines and the bravery

I use channel 4s teletext...Earls is the greatest reviewer ever:drool: Doubt any of you Canadians or Americans know of him though:wink:

The Secret Machines are still "underground" somewhat, and still have their "indie" street cred since they haven't had big success. Yet. Hopefully though! Great guys.

It's YEARS since I read Channel 4 music teletext (ceefax on BBC all the way  ) What number is it on these days?

^tis on 350...trust me far superior to the BBCs music ceefax bit...they review all the singles coming out that week on the monday, album reviews almost everyday, interviews with bands nearly everyday, a demo review section every tuesday, every news story is covered, plus it lists all the gigs happening and what bands will appear on tv or the radio that week...I swear by Earls reviews:drool:

I know they merged the entertainment bits into one blob...hate it..

Trust me channel 4s is the best:wink:

Disclaimer: I do not work for channel 4 or any subsidary, or for Dr Pepper....

BUY Dr Pepper:wink:

Agreed. People always right it off as weird, but a lot of it isn't too far removed from U2. I'm sure most people here would love Twin Cinema by The New Pornographers, for example. Or Belle and Sebastian. Or Stars. It's just bands that aren't dumbing down their songs to get radio play......I mean in the US, if you aren't really loud and being incredibly predictable, you won't get radio play.

are the new pornographers, belle & sebastian, bands like that really that obscure and unknown by the mainstream? i live under the reverse kind of musical rock, where i don't listen to the radio or watch mtv at all. if i didn't come here, i wouldn't even know that pearl jam had a new album. and the only reason i know the black eyed peas have a song about humps or whatever is because i've seen people online gripe about how horrible it is. i've never heard it. the real life people i'm around during the course of an average day are constantly trying to out indie each other, and if you didn't know of the new pornographers before twin cinema came out, you ain't shit.

i'm not saying that's the right perspective on music. elitism breeds just as much stupidity as anything else. but this thread kind of scares me, from the original post all the way to page 4. a good portion of the bands being listed are bands putting out albums on maybe not major labels, but on labels like matador or sub pop that have decent distro. hell, aren't the killers on a major? the arctic monkeys hold some kind of fastest selling cd record. this stuff is out there, and so many of you seem to think you're so obscure for liking a band that doesn't get played 6 times an hour on clear channel radio stations.

indie = independently released, and that's all it means. so it's the guy selling his homemade cd-rs out of the back of his truck after a show, not side one dummy's latest sign.
