Mr. BAW said:Northridge quake...officially a 7.3 but according to some of my insurance specialists that quake was probably closer to an 8...BUT, the powers that be did not want to release that # for fear of everybody moving from the area...a lot of commerce out there....I worked a couple of cases stemming from damage in that quake....

A moderate earthquake struck Southern California today, the second in less than a week large enough to shake a wide area from Los Angeles to San Diego and counties to the east.
The 1:53 p.m. quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 and was centered near Yucaipa in San Bernardino County, east of Los Angeles.
There were no immediate reports of any damage.
