I suppose they just used that because of its sporting connotations (football boots) right? And the rest of it may have been deemed a little 'political' for American television. Which also amuses me seeing as America is one of the, if not the, most globally active countries in its politics

But Americans themselves typically aren't political. Most are actually unbelievably apolitical, so it makes sense looking at it from the inside.
