Alannah Myles

Whatever happened to her???

Remember Black Velvet?

Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell
Jimmy Rogers on the victrola up high
Mama's dancing with baby on her shoulder
The Sun is setting like molasses in the sky.
The boy could sing, knew how to move, everything.
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for.

Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your knees
Black velvet if you please.

Great song!

:appreciate:

I used to like that song, butyears of hearing too many karaoke versions sung by smug, semi-trampy girls who think they're god's gift to singing make me change the station whenever it comes on the radio.

Never heard anything else by Ms. Myles.

I also like Song Instead Of A Kiss from her album, Rockinghorse. But that's about it!

I remember buying the album that "Black Velvet" was on because I liked that song so much. The rest of the album was awful.

Black Velvet is one of the greatest songs written by a solo female songwriter ever!
