It's two layers, the JT picture is on the bottom, and the other picture is on top, but with 50% of it removed, so what's left is sort of a diagonal checkerboard, with every other pixel removed. When you highlight something, it covers up every other pixel, so when you highlight it, the entire second picture gets hidden, leaving just the bottom image.
