AFI's annual film countdown is on tonight, from 8-11PM on CBS. It's different every year....top 100 comedies, top 100 love stories, top 100 quotes, top 100 thrillers, etc etc.

The last time they did just the straight up top 100 films was ten years ago....so now they are doing it again, with ten more years worth of films to choose from.

I always like these AFI countdowns. They're always very enjoyable.

I always enjoy watching these, I wonder which new movies will make it.

Yeah, but the numbers 1-10 are always a let down; at least if you're not a fan of Citizen Kane & Gone With The Wind. I'd like to see Die Hard and Tommy Boy crack the top ten :bonodrum:

We should all post our personal top 100s in here. I just updated mine. :hyper:

that sounds.... tiring

I can barely figure out a top 10, but 100? Damn, I'd probably melt down after 50 or so...

I try to log every movie I've seen and rate it, just so I know what I need to see and whatnot.

I haven't seen all of it, but I've seen bits and pieces

I'm probably going to expand it to 150, there are too many great movies being left out. :sigh:

Good list, LMP. I will have a good portion of the same on mine.

You just had the sitting around on your hard drive though, didn't you? Just waiting for a thread like this

Mine will take some time. It's easy listing a ton of movies I love, but it's putting them in order that's going to give me a migraine.

I really did have it there, I'm not even kidding.

It's hard organizing. I can do a Top 5 and that's it.

Knowing that this is going on of course those senior citizens on the AFI board will once again put Citizen Kane as the #1 film followed by Casablanca and Gone with the Wind. yawn.

Schindler's List is possibly worthy. GoodFellas definitely not. I mean, I love it to death, but it's no where near #1 of all time material. It's not even close to being Scorsese's best film.

Well, it may be better than "Casion" or "Gang's of NY", but it's not a better film than Raging Bull.

And the three of them still can't touch Taxi Driver, what I consider Scrosese's finest work, far and away.

From the movies I've seen I'd probably put either Gladiator or Saving Private Ryan at the top :)

I'll have to work out my top 100 :hmm:

I think Gladiator is just slightly overrated (Gah, I do hate that word though), but still far from the worst film to win Best Picture.

Saving Private Ryan is a modern classic though, and possibly in the top 3 war films of all time.

I don't agree with some of your placements, but that's a great list man

I really hope Memento, Saving Private Ryan, Fight Club, The Matrix, Children of Men, and Sin City place. Any one of those would be fantastic.

Doubt we'll see Sin City on the new AFI list. The other 5 are likely though. Memento might not. Matrix either. Children of Men might get shafted for being so new, even though that's sort of the point. I don't think Fight Club deserves to make it, but it very well might.

Saving Private Ryan should definitely be on there somewhere though.

Oh man I forgot Sin City, Memento and Fight Club, can I change some of it if you dont mind?

Fuck that, we should make an Interference Top 100 movies. Everyone submits a movie and we vote on whether or not it should enter the Top 100. If we do it in the style of namckuR's Beatles poll, it'll last forever! And be fun!

What do you say guys?

Go ahead, I forgot about Rushmore and few others too.

Save it for another thread, I'll make it soon!

I think that's a great idea.

Your method would be waaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy too tedious though...and doesn't really make sense.

So try again.

I like not making sense.

Then we'll all submit Top movies, look at the consensus picks (if 50 posters have Schindler's List and 1 poster has Troll 2, Schindler's will make the Consensus Top 100)

you know, like that.
