there are so many other ways to making people smile. you know that.

This has always been my way. I write people notes. I'm a writer. I just want to tell her that she's beautiful, kind and graceful. I've actually written notes to people and had them be really moved.

Yes and yes. One word, one little note can make such a difference in a life or even be as little as bringing a smile to someone's face. This is who I am. I just want to bring something as small as a smile to her face. Does that make me selfish?

It really depends on the manner in which you do this. If you come off as sincere and non-advancing/aggressive--if you do this innocent like a child--if you don't say it in a way which would offend her boyfriend--if you do it simply as a friend--then maybe this could work.

But I think the odds are against you, because from what I know about you, you seem like you'd be awkward around girls.

Why not bring happiness to the homeless laying out by the library? Or old people? They need love, too, even if they are going to die soon.
