What do you think? There's an article about it at cnn.com.

I guess they've made thongs for little girls. Not sure of the age...but anything pre-highschool I guess would be wrong....actually, maybe anything before junior/senior age in highschool.

I love thongs like any guy, in fact my g/f wears nothing but(she's 25...lucky me

)

to put something like that on a little kid...should be a law against it. Nobody cares about seeing panty lines in elementary school!

I hope I'm not the only one who's disturbed by A&F

what makes it even more disgusting is the fact that the thongs say things like, "wink, wink" and "eye candy."

sick. twisted. wrong.

but

clever. brilliant. smart.

i've never even been in or set eyes upon an abercrombie & fitch yet there name is in the forefront of my mind as a clothing retailer. i've never seen anything but tv commercials and all i know of their clothing is what i've been told, it's preppy, whatever that means.

why do i know all this? cause they're keepin' themselves in the news with silly stunts like this. and the 'oriental' related derogatory t shirts. and the racy catalogues. and whatever they have planned for the fall season.....

The local talk radio station here just were talking about this yesterday. They were going to have their producer go into an A&F store, asking questions about the thongs, like "Do they come with the matching garter belts?" etc. They were also going to pretend the guy was buying them for his 7 year old daughter.

Ge-ross. *barfs*

The Abercrombie and Fitch company has pulled so many disgusting stunts like this...child thongs, ethnically offensive clothing, soft-core porn in their catalogs. When are people going to wake up and stop buying stuff from them.

They suck.

Its all about product positioning, they keep public eye with stuff like this, and whether you like it or not, little kids want to be like older kids, and so when A&F pulls these, and kids are denied by both parents and other companys of what they want, then theyll be more sure to buy them when theyre able - you tell a kid they cant have something and they want it all the more.

I dont think its right, but I can certainly see the logistical reasoning behind it. This is what the government fought the communists for, to ensure this capitalistic free market would still be available to you. Cant whine and bitch about it when it bites you in the ass now and then.

How many little kids buy their own clothes, especially underpants? I didn't.

How many little kids even know what thong underwear is? I didn't, again.

I can't believe I ever bought anything from this company. When I was in high school (10 years ago) I thought they were cool. Two years ago I gave away the A&F clothing I still had and will no longer buy anything they make. I encourage you to do the same. I've never used the "barf" smilie before, but this one definitely calls for it.

I would like A & F to go on record and explain exactly what "wink wink" is supposed to mean when placed on an 8 year old girls crotch. And who would consider a little girl "eye candy"? And I don't even want to get into what the ones with the cherries is supposed to mean.

This is just more sick sexualization of little girls.

There is no logical reasoning for this. Thongs normally serve one of 2 purposes, either to eliminate panty lines or to make your ass look good for your man. Which of these would an 8 year old need them for?

The best vehicle of protest is to not buy them.

In response the first question, I honestly dont know, but kids do tag along with their parents when theyre shopping for clothes, and so they do have direct input into what gets purchased - at the parents discretion of course.

In response to the second, youd be suprised, times have changed at a pace where its sometimes sickening to think of things people are getting into at younger and younger ages. I was watching the news and it had a little study about sex, and kids as young as 12 are experiancing sex now, and thats turning into commonplace. So, logically, if kids have older sisters, or idealise their older brothers and listen to them talking with their friends about how some chicks ass looked good in a thong, theyre gonna say ok this is what guys like, and theyre going to want a peice of that action, because nobody likes to be left out.

Summaritively, morality is not whats instilled as being good, being accepted is. Similarly, parents of these younger generations are folding like lawn chairs over key issues, parents are afraid of punishing their kids, for whatever reason, be it the child welfare board, be it their kids being even more rebellious as a result which can cause more problems and make them look like bad parents... Kids want something and its more common that they get it than they be denied. So maybe this thong thing is just a tale of the times, maybe some parents out there have been perverted by their own life in this society, or wish for their children to be happy and accepted and feel that its a necessary risk to buy them things that they wouldnt in good concious buy them, and hope that their kid doesnt start to exploit this and become a brat like everyone elses kids when the parents have done the exact same thing. Farbeit from me, a 17 year old, to accurately depict the thoughts and actions of a culture which you all probably dont think I understand, but this is just how I see it. I have a lot of friends, of a lot of different ages, and to be honest, a lot of them are good people, just like the people of this message board are for the most part good people with a solid logical and moral basis. You have to remember though, that not everyone is as enlightened as some of us, there are a lot of idiots out there who dont understand life, who dont understand there is more to everything then just being popular, raising children is a challenge that a lot of people are too immature to accept and subsequently they think they can make their lives easier by spending money on trivial physical objects and then just assume that thingsll work out. I certainly dont support abercrombie and fitch in this matter, but I certainly dont blame them for pandering to the masses and exploiting society at face value. There is probably such an uprising over this because people are so elitest that they dont like to look in the mirror and see themselves for what they really are. However, again, I know the majority of people here, and the majority of people I know, can think for themselves, and can realise whats right and wrong. But we all, im assuming, come from a well off, highly moral background, we understand our principles, and interpret what we see around us and make solid logical judgements on that based on our life experiance. Some people dont have that, some people get their whole lives funneled into the norm, the status-quo, the preppy im better than all of you look what my parents bought me attitudes, and subsequently they dont see things as offensive or wrong, but there are more followers in the world than there are strong-willed, intelligent, leaders and individuals.

Anyone else want to question me about my answers?

I agree, Heartland Girl...when I saw this thread, I wasn't surprised that it said "Abercrombie and Fitch"...as I remembered kobayashi's post last month about t-shirts with derogotory comments on them. I, for one, will NEVER buy anything from Abercrombie and Fitch.

I wonder who they've got over there approving all this crap for marketing who thinks it's "cute" or "funny"???
