No alarms, and no surprises....

Is this song about suicide, or insanity, or the funny pharm, or just what? I'm slow that way...

LOVE OK Computer....great sleeping cd.

Ok I know I'm going to get shot for this, but this is my favorite song on Ok Computer.

I will stop
I will stop at nothing
Say the right things
When electioneering
I trust I can rely on your vote

When I go forwards you go backwards and somewhere we will meet

Riot shields
Voodoo economics
It's just business
Cattle prods and the IMF
I trust I can rely on your vote

When I go forwards you go backwards and somewhere we will meet

* crunch crunch

* bang bang

* grind grind

* cowbell

I think No Surprises is simply about someone worn out by life and a job they hate, someone who wants no more upsets. A kind of insanity maybe, but nothing as melodramatic as suicide. More like going quietly round the bend.

Have you ever watched the film Office Space? It's about that kind of suffocating, 9 to 5 job, urban living where you don't know your neighbour's name and you are obsessed with good health. In other words, yes you were right about the phunny pharm.

That is what both the song and ok computer's about, don't you think?

...Methinks that Tom must've been a retail pharmacist in the past to have written such a song...LOL!

about living in the suburbs where you work for a corporation 9-5 that pollutes the community, and why bother protesting, just leave me in peace and quiet.

.

that's a hypothesis really, they probably mean something beyond that, but that's the sense I get.

Sometimes they explain lyrics at greenplastic.com, I think, you can see what they say.
