So, for Valentines Day, my girlfriend gave me a $15 iTunes card as one of my gifts with a little note attached recommending I get a bunch of great 80s songs. So I downloaded 15 songs and I realized there is so much good 80s pop music out there!

Here are the ones I downloaded:

A-Ha: "Take On Me"
Berlin: "Take My Breath Away"
Dexy's Midnight Runners: "Come On Eileen"
Echo & The Bunnymen: "The Killing Moon"
A Flock Of Seagulls: "I Ran"
Madness: "Our House"
Modern English: "I Melt With You"
Murray Head: "One Night In Bangkok"
New Order: "Bizarre Love Triangle"
Phil Collins: "In The Air Tonight"
Simple Minds: "Don't You Forget About Me"
Soft Cell: "Tainted Love"
Tears For Fears: "Head Over Heals"
Tears For Fears: "Everybody Wants To Rule The World"
Wang Chung: "Everybody Have Fun Tonight"

Any suggestions????

Some good stuff on there tourist! I'd add a Pet Shop Boys number for good measure as they always sum up the 80's to me. And here's a classis, Aztec Camera - Somewhere In My Heart.

"lesser" pop:

The Smiths- How Soon Is Now?
Bronski Beat- Smalltown Boy

I've already got How Soon. Gotta love the Wedding Singer soundtrack (also has such classics as White Wedding, Hold Me Now, Love My Way, Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Everyday I Write The Book, etc). Also I have a billboard top hits of 87 with Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House (one of the best 80s songs imo).

WHAT ABOUT THOMAS DOLBY!??!?!

Gary Numan - Cars

M - Pop Muzik

One of the other may have been released in 1979, but they were both on the first rock album I ever owned: K-Tel's "Rock 80." It was AWESOME.

Melt with you- Modern English

3 letters people: O M D !

"Electricity"
"Enola Gay"
"Souvenirs"
"Talking Loud and Clear"
"Locomotion"
"We Love You"
"La Femme Accident"
"So In Love"
"Secret"
"Dreaming"
"Forever Live and Die"

and one of my all time favorites

"Messages" :drool: :drool: :combust:

And I much prefer Thomas Dolby's "Europa and the Pirate Twins" and "Wind Power" to "She Blinded Me With Science" . . . in fact, if I never heard "She Blinded . . . " again in my life, I'd be perfectly happy and content.

She Blinded Me With Science is one of those 80s songs that's still too played out for me. It never came back around for me in that "ooh, I totally love this song" way. Ditto I Melt With You and Tainted Love.

Ooh, thought of another one that's often overlooked:

Peter Schilling - Major Tom

I second the OMD rec, too. Electricity and Enola Gay are my two favorites.

I tried to get Major Tom by Schilling, but the only version on iTunes is in German. :(

I've never heard it in German! I think I have to buy that.
